The Great Wall of Dim Sums Situated in the bustling Koregaon Park, Uncle's Chinese was my first stop and hands down, it is a foodie's paradise for sumptuous Dim Sums. While this outlet is small, its interiors are cutely done up with colourful paintings covering the walls and a huge Yin and Yang symbol thrust upon the ceiling. This outlet truly feels like a home away from home right from the name to its cosy decor and friendly staff.
Lone travellers like me should definitely try this restaurant solely for the warmth exuded by the servers who will go the extra mile to give you the perfect experience. Mr. Paswan was the cheerful gentleman who suggested and served some beautiful dishes while engaging me in interesting conversation. Without hesitation, he told me about his life, his love for his work while demonstrating his excellent work ethic.
As I scanned the menu, I felt lost. Given that my palate craves tangy and sweet tasting food, I wasn't sure about what to order. It was right then that Mr. Paswan put me out of my misery by asking me what I really wanted and suggested a portion of Veg. Dim Sums and Green Thai Curry (specially made for me in the coconut milk gravy) with Hakka Noodles. The Dim Sums were delightfully soft and filled with goodness of assorted vegetables cooked to perfection. This is an absolute must-have because Uncle's Chinese has certainly mastered the art of preparing the perfect Dim Sums. Thai Curry with Hakka Noodles is a combination that I love and while the quantity was a bit much, I still managed to finish the entire dish. The gravy was thick and filled with a mixed variety of veggies ranging from button mushrooms to broccoli. It is filling, heavy and has a good blend of spices. If you're a fan of dishes made with coconut milk base then this is worth a try. In hindsight, I think fried rice would've been a better accompaniment instead of the noodles. However, that choice really depends on each one's taste.
If I remember Pune fondly, it's because of the way its people have welcomed me. Strangers who turned into friends, like Mr. Paswan, are enough reason to believe that good still exists in this world. Uncle's Chinese is your one stop shop for getting good food, great company and the...
Read moreWe ordered a Chicken Hot n sour Soup, Some Chicken Spring Rolls and in the main course, we ordered Burnt garlic fried rice and chilly chicken gravy. The soup was amazing. That kind of balanced flavour in the soup was something I'd missed for a long time. Coming to the spring rolls, they were strictly average if not below. The filling was just boiled chicken with some other boiled vegetables with not much flavour to it. I've had better spring rolls at cheaper places and also in places who do not specialise in Chinese. The burnt garlic fried rice were decent. Not groundbreaking, but not bad either. I'm not a fan of chilly chicken gravy and I prefer dry but the waiter did not give us dry saying that it's main course and you'll need gravy. Though he recommended it, I did not like that most flavours drowned in the gravy and I was a bit disppointed, as always. Nevertheless, the service is nice and the staff is friendly enough. Considering the cost, all of this cost us around Rs. 844 and this is for two people, so I won't say it's very economical, but not too costly either. A decent experience overall, and again, the soup...
Read moreI had recently been to Uncles Chinese at Koregaon park and the experience was just next to horrible and pathetic.
This Friday I and my wife along with my just one year old daughter reached to the restaurant door for a takeaway and we went to the desk that is placed just right outside of the restaurant.
The guy who sits at the desk is absolutely unwelcoming and unhygienic and has no value to the guests at all. The idea to share this feedback to bring serious attention from the owner on how irresponsibly and unprofessionally this guy behaves with the guests we profoundly experienced.
While I requested him on how long my order would take he completely ignored and continued enjoying on his phone. We further observed him folding his legs and resting on the chair scratching his legs and with the same hands touching the menu cards and throwing away to the associates who would give it to the guests. The experienced has been truly astonishing and I hope the owner wakes up to address this immediately to avoid the damages to his business and not put his hard...
