We were a family of 3 who had visited Dakshin ,Sheraton Delhi for Onam sadhya.Firstly when I called up the no to make a reservation in the morningat around 11am today, the lady who picked up the call mentioned that it will open only by 12.30pm and I need to call at that time. When I called at around 12.30pm I was told that Dakshin is closed inthe afternoon and open only from 7pm and no onam sadhya for lunch. When I mentioned that it's mentioned in the Google about sadhya she asked me to give her my no and from the restaurant they would call me..As I was travelling from Faridabad I really felt disappointed with all the confusing answers from ITC. Upon reaching they said onam sadhya is available but then we had to wait for at least half an hour. Some of the dishes were not at all authentic kerala dishes like dal which was served with coriander leaves. No ghee was served with dal for sadhya.Inji puli dish also was not upto the mark with grated ginger which was not fried and tasting raw was used.one dish with yam erissery was salty and not upto the mark . Finally a paan was served for which I will give a rating of 1.Pls don't give such low quality items to end one's meal that too Onam sadhya. Overall sadhya was disappointing and didn't give the feel of onam sadhya but a regular thali meals with some extra dishes. I had a filter coffee which was served in a heavy silver glass .the silver absorbed all the heat and it was very difficult to hold the tumbler and sip from that which was so hot.I would suggest that a right cup or glass should be used to serve filter coffee. Overall a disappointing experience and onam sadhya not worth it at Dakshin,Sheraton Delhi and I will not recommend to my friends or colleagues. Staff at the restaurant and call centre need to improve upon their communication skills and be...
Read moreDakshin used to be our go-to place for occasions. But today's experience quite a disappointment.
We ordered the non-vegetarian (chicken / mutton) thali and the seafood thali from the Chef's Curated experience section. The banana fritters served in the appetiser set were excellent, as was the fried fish in the seafood option. But the chicken starter was insipid. The mutton and chicken preparations in the non-veg thali tasted surprisingly similar, and there was a perceptible lack of flavour variation. The prawn curry and fish moilee in the seafood thali, though, were in line with expectations.
Perhaps a progressively more international clientele has turned the cuisine bland rather than ensuring that authentic regional flavours come through as they used to. Or perhaps, because the entire staff including the chef was North Indian, the attention to South Indian authenticity has been lost.
Service, too, was disenchantingly slow. Repeat requests had to be made for chutneys and biryani. When changing plates between the starters and main courses, the server placed the used fork and spoon directly on the table cloth rather than checking if we wanted to reuse them, or placing them on a side plate or banana leaf.
On the positive side, the staff sought and were very receptive to the feedback. As a curious aside, the restaurant manager offered to provide a goodwill discount for the perceived deficiencies but said that Club ITC loyalty points cannot then be credited. This suggests that it is better not to be a Club ITC loyalist (in general, I find that points are not always credited diligently).
Let's hope that things improve at my once-favourite restaurant in all of Delhi. Until I am assured of that, I will be giving the place a miss. After all,...
Read moreBritish tourist new to India. Stayed the Sheraton and ate at Dakshin. First and foremost, the restaurant was not buzzing or busy when we visited. In fact it was quiet. The service started off a little strange. We are used to waiting staff explaining the menu, but were directed to a QR code link to a website menu which was difficult to review all the options. We were also not given a drinks menu until requested. We eventually managed to speak to the waiting staff who advised they had physical menus, and were presented with a beautiful ornate booklet. I am not sure why they are not leading with this! We also managed to get some advice on food options (because there is a lot of choice). We had masala fried prawns to start. These are really good and strongly recommended. Our mains was a mutton curry which has a light spice level and a very mild chicken curry which is similar to a chicken korma (my girlfriend cannot handle her spice). We enjoyed poppadoms to start with a range of condiment sauces too, which are complimentary.
Our mains came with a side order of rice (there was too much for two people so you’re good to share one amongst 4 people I reckon) and a side portion of paratha (2 pieces) which was so good I ordered another portion. We had glasses of Australian red wine which was nice too.
Overall a good meal but not the same Indian hospitality we have experienced elsewhere (but maybe we went on a bad night). Sorry we usually get more photos than we...
