A Deeply Disappointing Experience at Saravana Bhavan – Select Citywalk, Saket
I had long cherished the memory of Saravana Bhavan’s sambar rice, which I first tasted over a decade ago at the Chennai railway station. It was so good back then that I’ve spoken about it fondly to my kids ever since. Naturally, I was excited to relive that experience at the Saravana Bhavan outlet in Select Citywalk Mall, Saket. Unfortunately, what followed was an utter letdown — a complete waste of money, time, and energy.
To begin with, the portion sizes were shockingly small. It felt more like I was attending a food exhibition rather than actually dining. The masala dosa barely had any masala in it — I had to hunt for it. The chutneys were so watery that I could’ve literally drunk them. The Pongal, which should have been creamy and comforting, was so dry and bland it felt more like plain rice. Even the idlis, something you’d expect to be foolproof at a place like this, were substandard — honestly, I’ve had better from roadside vendors.
The final straw was the sambar rice — the very dish I had been longing to enjoy after all these years. It was utterly uninspiring and nothing like what I remembered. The magic was gone.
Spending over ₹1200 for this meal felt ridiculous given the poor quality and quantity of food. This was not just a meal, but a memory I was hoping to relive and share with my family — and it was completely ruined. I would not recommend this outlet to anyone expecting authentic South Indian food or even basic...
Read moreWe visited the Sarvana Bhavan restaurant in the food court of Select City Walk, Saket. Ordered for Appam & rava masala dosa. The rava masala dosa was good but the sambhar was tasteless, no flavour at all. Chutneys were ok. Appam was all cold. They seem to have stopped giving stew with appam whike at their CP outlet they always provide stew to go with the Appam. Here at this outlet too they used to be but for some reason they have stopped or is it cost cutting be because of Corona. Without stew, appam doesnt taste even half as good. Overall i would rate it average. Feb 9, 2022. Ordered for a platter of malabar parathas or parottas with gobhi kurma. They give you 3 extremely mini parottas with kurma & Chutney. The meal was very average, not hot. Parottas were ok nd kurma was kinda ok. Ddnt find it good or interesting. I am a blogger available on instagram as @the_food_date....
Read moreMost of the time, they serve some of the best dosas you’ll find in any mall in Delhi. The dosa batter is excellent — crisp yet light — though occasionally a bit saltier than ideal. The sambhar is decent, around a 3 out of 5, but the chutneys really stand out. The coconut chutney is fresh and flavorful, though the tomato chutney misses that tangy punch you get at authentic South Indian places. The green chutney could also use a touch more freshness and herbiness.
Their filter coffee deserves a solid 4 out of 5 — aromatic and satisfying. However, the management tends to lose grip when the crowd picks up, which can affect service speed. Idlis and vadas are below average, and the uttapam is just about okay.
Interestingly, their ghee versions of dosas taste even better than the standard ones. Overall, it’s a good spot for a satisfying dosa fix, especially if you catch them...
