A Culinary Gem in the Heart of Annanagar – Erode Amman Mess
As a devoted patron for several years, I feel compelled to share my unwavering admiration for Erode Amman Mess, a culinary beacon in the bustling neighbourhood of Annanagar, Chennai. This isn't just another eatery in the sea of hundreds; it's a gastronomic haven where I've joyfully dined over 20 days each month, primarily relishing their lunch offerings.
Erode Amman Mess has transcended the definition of a restaurant for me; it's akin to a second home where I find myself drawn to savor lunch most days. The warmth of the ambiance, coupled with the consistently high-quality food, makes every visit feel like returning home for a comforting meal.
Their menu, which I've had the pleasure of exploring in its entirety, is a delightful journey through traditional and innovative dishes. Among my favorites are the wholesome Veg Meal, the uniquely prepared Japan Chicken, the robustly flavored Pepper Chicken, and the richly seasoned Tandoori Chicken. The Annur Chicken Gravy, Masala Omelette, Mutton Nalli, and Chicken Rasam stand out for their authentic flavors, while the Mutton Biryani and Special Erode Chicken 65 are must-tries for anyone visiting. The Chicken/Mutton Sukka, with its perfect blend of spices, completes this list of favorites.
The affordability of Erode Amman Mess is yet another feather in its cap. It's a rarity to find such exquisite taste and quality at prices that are more than reasonable. This balance of cost and culinary excellence is a testament to their commitment to serving the best without burning a hole in the patron's pocket.
Erode Amman Mess isn't just a restaurant to me; it's a culinary retreat where every meal is a celebration of flavours and a nod to the rich tapestry of South Indian cuisine. Read moreErode Amman Mess is a small yet vibrant restaurant in Annanagar East, known for its authentic South Indian cuisine and affordable prices. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance is well-lit and inviting, though it tends to get crowded most of the time, especially during peak hours.
I have visited Erode Amman Mess several times, and each visit offered a delightful experience with its wide variety of dishes. One of their highlights is the Japan Chicken, a sweet and creamy dish that is unique and flavorful, though the taste slightly varied across visits. The Mutton Biryani paired with flavorful salna is exceptional and highly recommended, while the Moru Moru Chicken and Prawns stand out for their crispy texture and bold flavors. Their Chettinad Chicken and Prawns starters deliver a spicy and aromatic kick, and the Dragon Paneer is tangy and well-seasoned, Other notable dishes include the Mushroom Biryani, which was satisfying and flavorful, and the Veg Meals, which were balanced and wholesome. The Parotta was soft, spongy, and paired wonderfully with the non-veg gravies, while the Prawns Fry was perfectly cooked with rich flavors. For dessert, the Coconut Pudding was a delightful choice, and the Elaneer Payasam was light and refreshing. Starting the meal with Mutton Rasam was a highlight, as it was warm and rejuvenating, while the Elaneer Noongu offered a unique burst of flavors. Even the Chicken Fried Rice was simple yet delicious.
While the food and overall experience were fantastic, the restaurant’s small size can lead to overcrowding, particularly during peak times, and the service, though attentive, can be a bit slow when the place is busy. Despite these minor drawbacks, Erode Amman Mess is a worthy spot to explore authentic South Indian flavors and fusion dishes. With its delicious offerings and homely vibe, it’s a place I’d...

Visited here first time after lot of overhypes. Taste they are good but THEY LACK IN QUALITY. Especially in non veg, that too spoilt/old meat is unacceptable. May be they serve fresh sea food on weekends but I had a horrible experience on a Friday during lunch today.
I was served very old prawns with foul smell and some of the pieces were like smudged potato, clearly rotten.
Look at the prawns plate, they are not even properly cleaned. Hand wash area I noticed a staff washing utensils and mixie cups without any dishwash soap.
Only very few staff had worn gloves and head caps, all those who served me didn’t even washed their hands and looked dirty. When I informed they wore gloves.
Chicken Tandoori was 70% cooked. I had eaten only the portions which are cooked well.
After I reported unclean utensils using which they served the prawns, they simply transferred the food content to another plate and kept me and the captain lady who took the order was justifying that prawns are super fresh and a fresh catch! First time I experienced such a bad quality prawns and couldn’t imagine this restaurant staff is taking lesson to me on how fresh and clean their food is. I left them as it is and asked them to eat instead if it is so fresh.
Can’t believe these guys didn’t even cancel the bill for prawns. I paid the full amount and left, will never return.
With such attitude and bad quality of food, this restaurant will soon be...
