First off, it was an old dilapidated building, but I kept my hopes because I thought, the food might be good. But things went downhill from there.
The service was really bad. The receptionist was too busy on the phone to even care that I was standing there to ask what I wanted. I waited for 10 minutes for the man to respond and even after his phone, I had to ask him before he asked me what i wanted. Leave hospitality, this is proper manners. The behaviour was if they were paying me to eat there.
In an empty hotel, it really doesn't matter where one sits. In spite of this, since I went alone, they made me move to a different table in hopes that somebody might come. In that room I was alone when I reached, I was alone when I left. Nobody came.
The washroom amenities are very basic and if you are lucky, you might get a clean one.
The lunch was served cold that too at lunchtime - 1 PM! The choice of food was very limited to 3 options, the food was of average taste and it was too pricey for a plate of veg meals that included 5 dishes, rice and payasam. And regardless of me taking no non veg items, they still charged me 130 for the meals. When I asked this, he reduced a bit and i had to pay in cash.
I agree with the fact that they serve authentic Kerala food.
But just thinking about the style of food, if you don't want such an experience like I had, I suggest you go to better options nearby which are less than 5 minutes away...
Read moreI like this hotel very much. This hotel run by Keralites, You can get decent biriyani and Normal meals here. It's always a busy place during lunch time. Huge parking and good service makes this hotel a welcoming one among Ooty restaurants. Food is very good for the price. All meals, biriyani and fried rice were good.
They are trying to maintain quality of food and service during even such a busy time. Most of the school picnic buses will occupy this hotel always. All malayalis visit here because of the service and guaranty of having a decent meal. Good seating capacity is the main advantage. Most times the place will be crowded with groups from Kerala (Mostly tourist buses).
The restaurant building looks like a heritage building. The hotel gives us a vintage feel. The night view from the Restaurant was super cool.
I have an experience more than 10 years with this place as a guest. The majority of the working staff are proficient in Malayalam and it makes this hotel as an ideal choice for Malayali guests.
The washing area has to be cleaned and maintained properly. Due to the crowd, the quality service is compromising.
If you are travelling with your family and you wanted to have some private time while dining this place is not at all recommended.. Most of the time, this hotel is crowded...If you want to stay at the heart of Ooty with cheap rates of room then I would...
