Extremely Disappointing Experience at Sidewalk Cafe, Ooty
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5)
Our recent visit to Sidewalk Cafe in Ooty, which took place between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM on the 30th of September, left us utterly disappointed and disheartened. This has always been one of our favorite spots in Ooty, known for its bustling atmosphere, great food, and friendly service. However, this time, we encountered an experience that was anything but pleasant.
Upon arriving at the cafe, we were immediately struck by the rude behavior of the duty manager. We approached him politely with a simple query about one of the display items on their chocolate and pastries counter. To our shock, he not only brushed us off but did so in an extremely disrespectful manner. He bluntly refused to serve us, citing that he was too busy to entertain our request.
What was even more disheartening was that this behavior was not limited to us alone. The ladies accompanying us faced the same dismissive and disrespectful attitude from the duty manager. Such behavior is simply unacceptable, especially in a reputed establishment like Sidewalk Cafe, which we have always held in high regard.
Customer service is an integral part of any dining experience, and it should never be compromised, regardless of how busy a place may be. The duty manager's behavior on this occasion was not just disappointing but outright shocking. It left us with a sour taste in our mouths and completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable visit.
We hope that the management of Sidewalk Cafe takes this feedback seriously and addresses this issue promptly. We have always cherished our visits to this cafe, but this recent encounter has left us reconsidering our choice for future visits. We never dined at this place post that experience, and we will always think twice before going there again.
Furthermore, we were disheartened to find that we faced similar treatment from some of the hotel staff and receptionists of the adjacent establishment, Hotel Nahar Nilgiris, which is just behind Sidewalk Cafe and owned by the same management. This added to our disappointment and further contributed to the negative experience of our evening.
We sincerely hope that both Sidewalk Cafe and Hotel Nahar Nilgiris take steps to improve their customer service and regain the trust of their patrons. Such behavior should not be associated with establishments of...

Short Review: Sleep hungry but do not, I repeat do not eat or drink anything here !!!
Honest to God, please read full review if you are planning to eat here.
Descriptive Review: Food: The head chef has 30 years of experience and in my 30 years of experience in life I never had worst food than I had today. You respect your taste buds and your stomach please don't punish them by eating here.
Service: If you come across captian Karchin or Karcheen, he doesn't deserve to be in hospitality business. Very rude and arguing with customer. All we asked for was chocolate syrup on top for that bland tasteless cold coffee (aka ice water with cocoa powder for this cafe) and he said "No you can't get it !" The manager listened to what we said but did not give a single minute of attention or an apology for such bad service and food.
Price: We paid 609/- for 3 items. 2 cold coffee and 1 soup. This is expensive for the quality of food they are serving. I never imagined in my life we would get food poisioning by drinking a cold coffee but it was that bad.
Overall: One good thing about this place is that it is next to some good restaurants and cafes that you need to try. There is also a KFC near by where you would happily eat left over stale food but don't eat anything here even...
Read moreWalking along the streets of ooty, the Chef gazing down the entrance caught my eye. The cafe claimed to serve Italian food and I decided to test their cuisine. Ordered Nilgiri special pizza, a pasta dish from the menu and a sizzling brownie for dessert. Surprisingly, the pasta was so damn good, flavorful and topped with grated cheese. The colors and presentation was attractive and we absolutely relished it. Definitely an 8/10 The pizza was wood fired with a slight smoky taste, had 2 different cheese (ooty cheese and cheddar), a perfect crust and fresh veggies. Definitely recommend this as it was delectable. Now, I have eaten a lot of pizzas and I give this one an overall 8/10. The sizzling brownie is a must order for dessert. The brownie was well made with nuts infused. A rich chocolaty flavor; topped generously with chocolate sauce and ice cream, it definitely made my evening. Overall the place served great food that definitely met expectations and I recommend it to tourists who would like to try some Good italian food. The restaurant has clean, fully functioning and seperate toilets for male and females. The ambience makes you...
