Old Madras Baking Company (Alwarpet) — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

I love their wheat bread. Then why do I give such a rating? It's because of the way a staff treated me today when I visited this branch.

There is a huge difference on how the staff treats their customers based on one's looks and language. When someone talks in english they respond in a polite manner but Whenever I go here and talk in tamil they are rude and treats me as if I shouldn't even step inside this shop. Today, I asked, bro, multi grain bread suthama gaali ah? (Is the multi grain bread completely over?) He was wearing his glove and sighed and said yes, Sutthama gaali ( in a irritated tone) Also, I made my payment through gpay and I showed my screen to the staff to acknowledge the payment and he didn't even see it and made a hand gesture like, "He's your bread, take it and leave". I told I made the payment. He repeated the same. I didn't want to create a scene over there as people were waiting to buy.

Its great that your bread is fresh baked but it would be great if you teach some manners and basic etiquettes on how to treat the customers equally because I'm not paying a penny less than those who speak in English. It would be great if the team addresses...

After reading many good reviews, decided to check out this place on a pleasant summer day. The aroma of this bakery is awesome.

I realised how poor the quality of breads are, after tasting their breads. I would make sure to go to this place again and again and again.

The ambiance is fairly nice especially with the woodwork sitting acting as an interesting charm. There is just a single big table but this place is more ideal for takeaways.

Ordered butter croissant: They just melted in their mouth.

Garlic toast: Immense pleasure while tasting with sauces.

Margarita pizza: Too good though it seems very pricey.

Banana bread: This was the best so far. Couldn't stop eating honestly

Also tried their hot chocolate which was just different from that of others.

I just walked home with total satisfaction....

Appreciate the quality that they maintain over the years. Apart from the usual stuff available everywhere few items are really good where you can't find them anywhere with the same quality. Custard danish, choco chip cake, caramel babka cake, victoria cake etc. My personnel favorites are victoria cake , custard danish and 3 cheese melt sandwich. Also a very kind person called Durai anna who does a very good job there. Always I call for him whenever I visit there. No one makes a really good cheese sandwich like he does.
