Ever Fantacized about that dream date where you are in the roof top of a star property with all those dim romantic lights set up with the palm trees on the sides and suddenly cold breeze hits you as you see your love of your life walking towards you waving her hand with a smile on her face. Okay enough said for now, Let’s get back to reality. This is how this place can be felt. A perfect romantic place with slow music and perfect date ambiance with good Wine & Dine option.
I was here during their ‘Mezze and Grill’ festival. Tried the Non-veg side on Mezze and Grill. Mezze, Something that is served usually in the beginning (before the main course) that goes well with the drinks. It’s the selective short eats served to accompany your alcoholic drinks.
Mezze Sampler, Assorted Breads: Fried Pita Bread | Zhatar | Iranian | Soft Pita Bread | soft focaccia Dips: Maskatare | hummus | baba ganoush | burani spinach
Breads play a major role in Mezze. They seem to be a good eats accompanying the drinks. The Fried pita bread came along with a yoghurt based dip and Pickled veggies. I liked the pickled vegetables which were uniquely good. Later came the other breads, Focaccia was too good! Perfectly soft and the olives topped with a hint of tomato garlic sauce on it made it a wow factor. Went on really well with the Hummus and rest of the dips. The breads and the Dips along with the Drinks was a good start.
Soups: Soup e Murgh ( Chicken Soup )
The Clear soup which was very much flavorful and soothing.
On the Grill’s side, Shish Taouk | Chelo kebab koobideh |Meigoo e Kebab
A huge platter that consisted of grilled Prawn, Fish, Chicken and Sheek kebab. Shish Taouk , Boneless baby chicken leg marinated with Turkish chilli paste, lemon juice and garlic.Good. Chelo kebab koobideh, Minced lamb kebab which was not so flavourful but tasted good. Meigoo e Kebab, Prawns marinated in zesty saffron and brushed with citrus sauce, Naah, Not my type.
Two pieces of each, Good in quantity for one. Taste wise, I felt it was very normal. Nothing much interesting yet the flavours and spices were perfect. Marination for the grill was top notch. It also came along with a bowl of saffron flavoured rice along with ladies finger stew. Different and went on well with the grill.
For the desserts, They had, Baklava | Omali
Have been trying baklavas recently from many places, This one didn’t seem to please me much. Usually, Baklava is a puff pastry stuffed with nuts and topped with caramel sauce. This one was little laggy in the Caramel sauce. Anyways, Omali was a WOW! A bread pudding based. Frankly, this reminded my childhood Cerlac days. I loved it though, So will you!
For the Drinks, We ordered a glass of Hoegaarden | AGs White wine | Pink lady cocktail | Orange based mocktail
I should agree they have a good choice of Cocktails and mocktails that make a perfect match for the ambience.Loved all the drinks and yes, The ambiance made the drinks even better. Felt like tasting the stars under the stars. Heavenly.
I should also comment on their Service.Very humble and anytime approachable.

Service:
Me being a pure vegetarian all my life and based on my vows due to my faith was kind of tricked into eating Sea Food (Squid) by one lethargic service person named Mr. Ujjwal. We ordered onion rings and he bought squid instead. We were not sure since the food didnt have any ring shape and double confirmed with Mr. Ujjwal whether it is Onion rings and without even looking at the food he confirmed yes. As I was super hungry took a piece and munched to find it tasted different probably like egg. Then one of my friends who is a non-vegetarian confirmed it is Squid and not onion. When we asked Mr. Ujjwal about this all we got was a simple "Sorry!" with a "so what?" look on his face. He didnt even have a slight remorse about the blunder he made. We called his supervisor also and gave an earful but all they did was looking at us with "why are you overreacting?" look. Being a staunch vegetarian I don't know if I will ever eat onion rings again in any restaurant because of lethargic and insensitive people like Ujjwal and his supervisor. If you are a vegetarian please DO NOT go to this hotel, they wont care for your choices.
Food Quality:
Lesser said the better here, when you charge 350 rs for a small glass of buttermilk and upwards we expect some level of taste in your food. We got pulao as a compliment for the almost bland starters, the pulao smells like it but tastes like plain white rice. Tandoori rotis were too hard, side dishes were bland..Some of my non-veg friends said meat was undercooked. Even the lemon soda was bad and didnt have the punch. I realised that it is possible to make bad sodas on that day. Extremely overpriced for the quality they serve. Food was insensitive to my taste buds like their staff insensitive for veg/non-veg preferences.
Overall my delightful mood of meeting my high school friends was spoiled by insensitive staff + incompetent cooks in this Westin Sunset grill. Not going again even if I don't have to...

The Westin, Velachery needs no introduction. Being the party of Elite Services group of Marriott, this property gives utmost importance to Wellness. Hence you would find Gym, Spa and a Pool in this property and also the food that is served will have the combination of healthy salads.
I was also surprised to know that this is the only property which offers “Heavenly Bed”, a bed which consists of 11 layers and the manufacturer has signed an MoU that he offers this only for the Westin properties.
Coming to my visit. The restaurant was named Sunset Grill since it offers the best of the Sunset view and use to offer Grills and hence the name. They were offering Indian and American Cuisine and decided to keep the Indian one intact and introduce cuisine from the Middle East instead of American.
Chef Ahmed Bounaji who hails from Morocco 🇲🇦 has come here and created magic with his hands. This is his 2nd visit to India, he said. He innovated the middle eastern cuisine to fit with Indian taste buds explained the process and technique that goes into making each of these dishes. I’m not going to speak much about the food and the name of the dishes since these are tough to remember. Attaching the menu card to make the job easy for all of us.
All I must say is this infusion of middle Eastern cuisine coupled with Indian cuisine is terrific. Each dish was curated so well and the Chef will leave his legacy behind. Do not miss it. Yalla...
