Wild Gardencafe — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

Some places posses the tendency to at once calm one down. Amethyst is one such place. It has the power to instantly calm me down.

The place has an old world charm to it. The whole black and white checkered floor, the huge French doors, the high ceiling, the classy Chintz sofas, the iron wrought chairs all together has an 50s charm to it. The tiny black tiles counter with dessert chiller always cheers me up. The portraits on the wall are beautiful. The chiller always filled to the brim with dark and sinful chocolate-y delicacies, varieties of Cheese cakes, banana walnut cake, tarts and mousse is such a treat to the eye. The black tiled pantry - beautiful.

It's a perfect place to have a romantic date or even perfect to get lost in a book. They have a good wifi service, it's chargeable though.

I have been a regular since 2003, when they were previously located near Lloyd's road.. But I like the current location on the Whites Road better than the previous one.

Being a regular I have tried almost 60% of items that are listed on their main menu and 100% of items on the dessert menu..

The Must-Haves :

🎀 The Minute steak - I like my steak really well done with extra gravy on top and that's exactly how they make it here. Perfectly made. It's served with a portion of salad and fries/mash potatoes. Mmmmm. Just perfect!!

🎀 The Crumb Fried Fish & Chip - Who in their right mind would not like this yummie lil combo? Perfect golden Crumb fried fish served with a generous amount of fries and tartar sauce. Give it to me 3 times a day for the rest of my life and I'd never complain.

🎀 Thai Red Chicken Curry : Though not the best I've had, I like it the way it is served here. Served along with steamed rice. It's scrumptious..

🎀 Four Cheese Pizza : Fresh, aromatic and thick base with Mozzarella, Parmesan, Feta and Cheddar cheese on top. What's not to like? A must try!

🎀 Dark Chocolate Mousse. 🎀 Chocolate Tarts. 🎀 Chocolate Chip Cake. 🎀 Steamed Chocolate Mousse. 🎀 Banana Walnut Cake. 🎀 Banana Split. 🎀 Triple Chocolate Tart.

The Worth-A-Try Items:

🎀 The Continental Breakfast. 🎀 Chocolate Chip Waffles. 🎀 Chilli Cheese Melts. 🎀 Fusille Pesto. 🎀 Toasted Chicken Sandwiches.

Coming to service, it's a tad slow, so are the staff who are too clueless most of the time. Even when asked about the events taking place in the venue, they react as if being quizzed about Timbuktu, even if it's happening right under their nose. No idea if they are actually that clueless or of they are just too lazy to explain. That's one place where Amethyst really needs an improvement. Big time.

A meal for two may sum up to 1800+ Tax which is expensive but one must pay the price for all the fine things in life.

It's an Awesome modern cafe in the hot Chennai City. The place is best for the wheel chair accessibility. It's also a pet friendly shop. There is Ample parking space available. Order the dishes immediately after you come without delay. Since they take more time for serving the dishes.

Must try dishes - Blueberry cheese cake, Sweet potato fries, Thai red chicken curry, Thai Green chicken curry, BLT sandwich, Orange caramel chocolate fudge, Dark chocolate mousse with orange caramel, French dark chocolate, Chocolate cheesecake.

All chocolate based varieties are very good.

I recommend you to go on weekdays due to the crowd. But on weekends, i will opt you to Reserve the tables prior. Otherwise you have to wait for a long time. Nice to be in the brunch or at evening times. Opt for the outdoor tables at day times. Better to go on the day to avoid mosquito problems in the evenings. But in the evening, the lights would be great. The choice is yours.

This is a Great garden store - Flower shop, boutique and with a fantastic cafe. There is also a Party hall and a few shops which i mentioned above. The staff is kind and humble. Can spend some peaceful time with family and friends. There are some poisonous plants also, so keep an eye on your children's and tell them not to touch or bite the leaves. This place is highly recommended for the food and the ambience of this Great place.

They have great options in vegetarian dishes. They always clean it up and the maintenance was really wonderful. There is no compromise on the quality of dishes. It's a sure high pricey shop but i think, it's a must go place in Chennai and experience this place at least once. Then it will be a addiction to be here like me😂😅. This privacy is well maintained. Overrated, Underwhelming, and Definitely Not Worth the Hype

Had high hopes for this place based on all the buzz, but honestly, the experience was a complete letdown. Let’s get straight to the point: Veg Aglio Olio Pasta – This was hands down one of the worst versions of Aglio Olio I’ve ever had at any café. Bland, oily, and lacked even basic flavor. Felt like something thrown together with no balance or taste.

Cheese Balls – The only dish that was just about okay. Crispy on the outside and mildly cheesy on the inside, but nothing memorable or worth a second order.

Café Frappe – Here’s where things got really annoying. A Café Frappe literally everywhere else means milk + coffee + sugar, blended to creamy perfection and topped with whipped cream. But here? They served us cold espresso—no milk, no sugar, no whipped cream. Just cold, bitter coffee in a glass. And they called that a frappe. Honestly baffling. So please be very careful when ordering drinks here; what you expect may be wildly different from what you get.

For the kind of food and drink we received, the pricing feels completely unjustified. You’re essentially paying for the setting, not the food.

Yes, the café has a nice green setting with a lot of plants and pots around, giving it a calming, garden-like vibe. But again, this charm is really only felt during the daytime. If you're visiting at night, it loses a lot of its appeal.

Aside from the aesthetic appeal of the place, there’s nothing else going for it. The food is poor, the drinks are misleading, and the overall hype doesn’t match the actual experience. Definitely felt like a case of style over substance.

If you’re heading here just for Instagram pictures, sure, it might do. But if you’re looking for good food and a quality café experience, I’d say skip Wild Garden Café—there are far better places in Chennai that deliver on both...
