PLEASE DON'T VENTURE OUT UNTILL & UNLESS IT'S AN EMERGENCY - STAY INDOORS & KEEP YOURSELF & EVERYONE AROUND YOU #SAFE 🙏
During the past six months - I have been fortunate enough to try all #three different versions of a winter snack famous all throught out North India..
I am mentioning them in order of my personal preference:
#MakkhanMalai at #Lucknow
#DaulatKiChaat at #Delhi (more of an Agra creation though)
#Malaiyo at #Varanasi
Although I have mentioned them in that particular order - I must admit there is a pretty thin line differentiating them from each other which makes all three versions equally delicious - well, almost equally.. The fact that makes all three similar is that you need to find the right place to get the best and the most authentic taste of all three of them.. I have already spoken about the first two in my earlier posts hence I will only concentrate on the third one today - MALAIYO..
It took me a lot of research and quite a few hit and trials to zero in on the #best Malaiyo in Varanasi and as I relished on the outcome - all that effort seemed to be absolutely worth it..
#ShreejiSweetsnMilk - that's your destination for the best Malaiyo in Varanasi - pretty difficult to locate considering the confusing lanes and bylanes of #ThatheriBazaar but once you find it - you will not regret your effort - available only from #Diwali till #Holi every year - you need to reach the shop by 10am max to get a hold of it.. Every spoonful of this scrumptious delicacy is a delight to your tastebuds..
#MUSTTRY whenever you are in Varanasi - I can go back to the city again multiple times only for this taste which can't be described via mere words - you need to try it yourself to feel the gastronomical bliss 😍

Read moreVisited during night of about 10:00 pm. At that time very less crowd. And one uncle was there to buy mango kulfi... So only batter was there and that was only cold and in liquid phase. There I have eaten many famous sweets of malai... And a complementary kulfi. That was unforgettable taste. And I can say that I cannot find that taste in India. The shop owner was really a good person and may god bless him.
"""" And a small tragedy story held me there The uncle that was there to buy mango kulfi and shop owner helped me to tell about surrounding and told me visit kal bhairav mandir at that time. That is about 10:30 pm and said that You visit there at that time very peacefully or otherwise next day for about 3:00 hours in line. So we have visited kal bhairav mandir at night 10:30 .And very less crowd is there. And next when I was going toward ghat I can see that there was a line of about 1km of peoples. Really I am in shock that
If they don't us that you can visit there we don't easily get darsan there. And next day due to time shortage I am sure that I cannot go to kal bhairav mandir.
""" The owner give us kulfi for free and I will definitely visit again there in my life.
For the taste and memory I would suggest that you must visit there.
And memory I will not forget in my life that how I met that uncle and how they explained us what to eat there and what should I try from that shop and other nearby shops.
At last I would say that a smile takes a moment but memory of it last forever.

Read moreThis place is all over YouTube reviews for its malai-doodh items, so we had to visit here. And glad we did heed to those reviews. Thankfully it wasn't very crowded, so we got an opportunity for some tete-e-tete with the owner. We asked him to make us taste everything that we wouldn't be easily getting in metro cities. He served Malai poori - thick layer of malai drenched in saffron milk with just apt amount of sweetness. It vanished off the plate within seconds, only to be refilled again. Next was ras malai, which definitely tasted better than what we get in Haldirams and Bikanerwalas of the world. Next came the best of the lot - Rabdi, we were full by this time, but its heavenly taste helped us kept going. We tasted few more sweets, but these 3 were the ones which topped our list. Must visit and must try. Unfortunately we couldn't have Malaiyo (expectedly), as its available only during winters and that as well only during morning hours ( i think 7 am to 11 am). Glad we left something to look forward to our next trip.
As they say, every moment you spend in Banaras is a learning. My friend kept his plate on the top of shop counter and was interrupted by a wise old man standing next to us, that the counter is as auspicious as god, and the shopkeeper further explained that as we worship the shop front and counter every morning, so its inauspicious to keep...
