One of the standout highlights of our recent Darjeeling trip was discovering this restaurant, which is much loved by locals for its Thakali and Newari specialties.
We tried: Chicken Sekuwa Thakali Buff Curry Thakali Buff Chataamari
On our first visit, we went for the thakalis. Just when we thought we had already found the best Thakali in Darjeeling at another spot, this place surprised us by serving an even better one. Every element on the plate was impressive, with the gundruk being a clear star. The Chicken Sekuwa was beautifully charred with a rich smoky flavour, though we did feel that a bit too much colouring (or something similar) was used, as it lingered on our hands even after washing. The Buff Curry, on the other hand, was spot on—flavourful with perfectly cooked pieces of meat.
We enjoyed it so much that we came back another day just to try the Chataamari. I’ve tried Chataamari at several places across the Kathmandu Valley, where it’s traditionally from, but the one I had here in Darjeeling was the best of them all—generously topped and absolutely delicious.
The staff deserve a mention too—polite, attentive, and well-trained. Overall, this restaurant is a gem in Darjeeling and an excellent place to experience authentic...

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kathmandu Kitchen In Darjeeling, a restaurant that serves authentic Nepali cuisine. I must say, I was blown away by the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. The restaurant has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive.
The highlight of my meal was the Nepali thali, which was absolutely delicious. The sekuwa thali, in particular, was a standout dish. The sekuwa (grilled meat) was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and it was accompanied by a variety of other dishes, including dal (lentil soup), aloo tama (potato and bamboo shoot curry), and chutneys. The flavors were bold and complex, and everything was cooked to perfection.
Overall, I would highly recommend Kathmandu Kitchen to anyone looking for authentic Nepali cuisine. The food is top-notch, and the service is excellent. If you go, be sure to try the sekuwa thali – it's a...
