Review of Tibet Kitchen: A Terrible Experience
I recently had an incredibly disappointing visit to Tibet Kitchen that I feel compelled to share. To start with, the behavior of the lady staff member was extremely rude, setting a negative tone right from the beginning. We placed our order at 1:50 PM, but the food didn’t arrive until 2:30 PM, an unreasonably long wait.
We ordered thuppa (both vegetarian and chicken), vegetarian and chicken dimsum, and chicken thenthuk. Unfortunately, none of these dishes were palatable. The food was so tasteless and awful that we couldn’t even bring ourselves to finish it. The lack of flavor and poor quality was shocking.
To add to the frustration, we requested to speak with the manager, but there was no one available. We even asked for the chef to come and take our feedback, but our request was ignored. Not a single staff member offered to change the food or reprepare it. Instead, they were completely indifferent to our dissatisfaction and insisted on charging us the full amount. We had to leave the food half-eaten and find another place to eat.
The overall experience was extremely unprofessional and unpleasant. I would strongly advise against visiting Tibet Kitchen. It’s a big NO from my side. Very unprofessional service and low-quality food. Avoid this place...
Read moreIf you're ever wandering the charming, albeit sometimes cryptically located, streets of Darjeeling, make a beeline (or perhaps, a careful climb) to Tibetan Kitchen! This spot is a genuine gem, even if its entrance requires a bit of an adventurous spirit—tucked away on the first floor with a staircase that adds to the mystique, rather than the illumination. Once inside, you're enveloped in a vibe that's purely Tibetan, from the décor to the aromas wafting from the kitchen. It can get a tad warm, but that just adds to the cosy, authentic feel. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the veg thenthuk. Oh my, it's an absolute flavour explosion! The noodles are perfectly chewy, the broth is rich and comforting, and the vegetables are fresh and vibrant. Seriously, that thenthuk alone is worth the expedition. We weren't quite as smitten with the tin momo, but with a dish as stellar as their thenthuk, it's easy to overlook. And here’s a delightful touch: the complementary tea was a truly refreshing bonus, a perfect palate cleanser that somehow just hits differently after a hearty meal. Overall, Tibetan Kitchen in Darjeeling is a place that delivers on taste and atmosphere, offering a truly memorable culinary experience. Just be ready for a little treasure...
Read moreTibet Kitchen is a warm and inviting restaurant located on Zakir Hussain Road. To get there, just climb the stairs beside Taj Bakery and head up to the first floor. Once inside, you’re greeted with beautifully done interiors in traditional Tibetan style, creating a cozy atmosphere that’s perfect any time of year—especially with plenty of fans for the summer months.
The food is truly fantastic, with a wide range of authentic Tibetan dishes, along with some Chinese and Indian options. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the quality is consistently excellent.
Special mentions go to the Chicken Shaphaley (crispy, juicy, and full of flavor), Chicken Phing Sa (a hearty glass noodle dish with chicken), and Chicken Thukpa (comforting, wholesome Tibetan noodle soup). Each of these is a must-try for anyone visiting.
Guests are welcomed with a complimentary cup of Darjeeling tea upon seating, and the restaurant also serves alcohol at fair prices.
Owner Dorjee is a warm and friendly host, always a pleasure to talk to. His selection of background music—classic English pop and rock from the 70s and 80s—adds the perfect finishing touch to the experience.
Tibet Kitchen isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience. Highly recommended for anyone...
