Hi every one , over hyped restaurant with zero hygiene and tooooo costly, exorbidant price, wonder whether health inspectors visit this type of small restaurants which gives zero importance for cleanliness.
I dropped in on 29th Dec around 2.30pm hoping to have a decent food ,handwash area was not clean, Water was not flowing freely fm tap
Banana leaf given to me was dirty and I requested the person to replace it and he was starring at me.the second banana leaf also was dirty and when I asked the person about it he was starring at me and walked off immediately out of the restaurant.
I use to have breakfast during late 80's and beginning of 90's and at that time they are small and not much of crowd, they were able to maintain cleanliness, and prices are affordable for the quality ingredients they are using.
But now they have grown up big and due to good customer patronage they hv hiked the prices more than saravana bhavan and zero hygiene.
Not only this in same locality kalathi kadai, Mami mess , though food prices are economical but hygiene factor is not there.
Rayar mess another old hotel at arundel Street in mylapore which has got lot of vip customers has got no hygiene at all. I hv seen the person grinding urad dal flour in wet grinder was cleaning the the water jug in the wash basin (where all customers use to wash and goggle )and collecting the water from the same wash basin tap and pouring it in urad flour while grinding.
Health inspectors should make frequent surprise visit and close all hotels which gives no importance...
Read moreWorst experience. Karpagambal mess had lost its fame during my childhood days itself. Atleast in those days it was more of being expensive and not providing the initial days quantity and quality.but now it's utterly poor.
There was only one other customer when we went in. Asked if Adai avial is available he said yes. We went and sat and it took them more than 5 minutes to come attend us (that's when the place is empty !!!)
Mom asked hot water he didn't respond at all. I also mentioned but nothing. 10 minutes later he brought hot water. Thanks !?!
Then came Adai. Omg. I've never eaten an Adai that was filled only with sooo much red chilli. Stupidly spicy. Aviyal wasn't avial at all.it felt like koottu. Aviyal needs to have a coconut oil flavour used during tempering. There was no sign of it at all. And soo much green chilly in it. Literally felt like eating kootu. With the spicy Adai it wasn't compensating to the hotness at all. Mom couldn't eat at all. We asked for some curd and said we will pay for it. He says no ther is no curd available at all.. that's all they could do. I managed to eat and we paid 260 rs for that !!!
Glad we didn't order curd rice there. When walking out, saw another table ordering curd rice and he was picking green chilli and red chili pieces from it - there was atleast dozen pieces of chilli for a bowl of curd rice. I was shocked !!!
It's been ages since I visited this place. Never gonna...
Read moreThe Mylai Karpagambal Mess is a great place to visit for those looking for delicious vegetarian food in the vicinity of the Mylapoor Kapaleeswara temple. The location of the hotel is convenient as it is located close to the temple, making it an easy walk for devotees after a morning visit.
The restaurant serves tasty vegetarian food, and the sweet dishes are especially popular among visitors. However, it is advisable to reach early as there are chances that the food gets finished by the time you reach. During my visit, I arrived at 9:30 am and found that the masala for Poori and Masala dosa had already run out. However, I was still able to enjoy the Podi dosa and Onion dosa, which were both very delicious.
Apart from the food, the staff behavior is noteworthy, and they are always friendly and welcoming. The servers are attentive and make sure that your dining experience is pleasant and enjoyable.
One drawback of the restaurant is the limited parking space. There is no dedicated parking available, and you will need to park on the road side. However, this is a common issue in the area and shouldn't detract from the overall experience of the restaurant.
Overall, Mylai Karpagambal Mess is a great place to visit if you're looking for delicious vegetarian food in the vicinity of the Mylapoor Kapaleeswara temple. With its convenient location, tasty food, and friendly staff, it's definitely worth...
