Experience of a Chennaite who hasn't seen the other part of Chennai despite of being in Chennai for 19 years. I went here with my friends after an early morning ride to Bessy to witness the beautiful sunrise. Yes, that was our New Year celebration.
This is one of the authentic South Indian tiffen stall you get to see on Travel & Living channels. A typical Iyer aathu location. Really warm and welcoming.
The best part about this place is you get to see different people from different backgrounds come here eat the authentic South Indian breakfast.
Ambience - Subtle, compact with limited seats and clean. Open kitchen. Slabs serves as a table. Don't get your hopes up - no chairs.
Service - There's no room for waiting in the queue in their dictionary. The service is very fast. You get to see the chef making hot dosas right in front of you being it an open kitchen. Served hot. When it comes to sides and condiments it's self-service. Nobody is going to judge you. You can have unlimited sambar.
Taste - The sambar and vadacurry was top notch. The dosa was hot but nothing great about it.
Pricing - A bit pricey for that ambience I would say. Any average teenage could afford a meal there.
Recommendations - Vadacurry ( Tasty and good quantity ) | Puri ( Oil-less and soft ).
What I had - Ghee Podi dosa, Puri and Vadacurry.
Others - For all the Snapchat freaks out there, this is definitely a place to get some good snaps for your stories. Hot dosas, Iyer locality and a guy making hot tea with skills.
One of the best place to check out with your best buddies. I wouldn't recommend this place for families.
Being this my first review, please do like and comment and let me know what would you like to see. Eat hard, workout harder, don't die with regrets. Bon...
Read moreOne fine afternoon, after visiting Kapaleeswarar temple, I took my friends to eat in this hotel just because it's close to the temple. Please consider this point, don't be lazy like me so please eat somewhere with your family and friends. I am totally disappointed with the meals and the service. I ordered meals, I got 3 curries, kesari, 1 poriyal, 1 koottu, appalam and rice.
Let me describe one by one Rice- Half boiled rice (not preferable for kids) Sambhar- average (if u don't like capsicum to be soaked in your sambhar, please don't go, because I find only capsicum in it) I am not sure whether it's karakozhambu Or Vathakozhambu- it tastes worse (I could smell a lot of Jeeragam not anything else) Rasam- ok ( first of all I thought it is paruppu rasam, but it's not so. They are actually using a single ladle to every gravy so u find the mixed taste in every curry even in Kesari) 5.Kesari- like a cheery on the cake, I found kesari on the top of kovakkai poriyal. I think they unfortunately misplaced it. 6.kovakkai poriyal- average Koottu- average (vegetables are by mistake soaked in coconut chutney)
To conclude, don't disappoint yourself here rather dine somewhere to save the good vibe...
Read moreI have been visiting this tiffin stall for the 7 years. This is located in a by lane( Pichu pillai street) on the eastern main entrance of Kapaliswarar temple. just 200 feet across the main eastern Gopuram).Though started by a"mammi" ( respectable referance to elderly ladies in Tamil,) yeras back, she used to offer tiffin sitting on the veranada. It became very popular over the years . Recently ( a couple of months back) it has been nicely renovated . Very clean and excellent morning tiffins, I go there to taste their 'Vadais". In any decent restaurant vadia costs 25 to 35 Rs. Here in spite of being homely and decent it is only Rs 15. Tastewise it is superb with Sambar. They offer pongal, Idlies , excellent coffee tea, etc It opens at 7am. For lunch one can get mixed rice preparations. For visitors / tourists who keep Kapaleeswarar temple in their itinerary, this is the best place to have their tiffin, light lunch or evening tiffin. Sunday is the only...
