After almost living for 2 decades in the city, I got a chance today to try the popular 'idli sambar joint'. This place has a steady customer base for the past 6 decades. Food Review, Simple authentic south indian type of grainy idlies drenched in a pool of sambar (their signature way of serving in a large ladle) and coconut chutney (dip). The sambar tasted like old times, lots of mustard and the typical home style sambar masala. You will love it and repeat it for sure if you live the cuisine. Ambience, It's non-airconditioned dining hall with minimal furniture. No extravaganza, Just quality food in a hygienic surrounding. Service, it's prompt and the servers are listening with patience and very humble. There is bike parking space in the front. Car parking might get tougher during peak hours. Prices are very reasonable. If you like this piece of review, please do let me know by clicking the like button below. Thanks, good day!

After hearing numerous positive reviews, I decided to visit this place, and I must say, it lived up to the hype. We tried the Idly Sambar, Ghee Roast Plain Dosa, fluffy Parata, Onion Uttappam, Kulcha with Aloo Gobi, and Filter Coffee. The idly was incredibly soft, and the sambar was outstanding—so good that they offer unlimited refills, and you’ll find yourself going back for more. The dosa and uttappam was also well-prepared and delicious. The come with two sides and sambar. Service here is impressively fast. While the ambiance is average, the exceptional taste of the food more than makes up for it. One challenge is parking, as the restaurant is in a very busy area of the city. It’s very very difficult to find parking if you’re driving yourself. It’s best to take an auto or ride a two-wheeler if possible. Overall, this place is definitely recommended for its amazing food at a budget-friendly price.

Heard from people that it's very famous in triplicane and i've never been there. People from 1980's are in awe of Ratna cafe's for its authentic and famous sambhar. At the first sight I thought it would be yet another restaurant with mediocre taste but then after having thier signature idli Sambhar with my friend Saravanan Shankar , I just fell in love with its taste. I too gave a shot and its worth it. For two idlis I was given large quantity of sambhar which made me to think like why do I even need so much when I just have to eat two idlis?? I was proven wrong by myself as once you kick off with your first bite, you will be like, "Give me more sambhar, give me more sambhar"!!! Haha.. It's surely cozy and only veg offerings. They've started chats too and that was epic, especially dahi poori! Huge in quantity! And, never forget to lick your Sambhar dipped fingers ;)

Once upon a time ie nearly 40 years ago they did business with customer service and satisfaction. Now a days they turned to be a businessman. They failed in their customers service and satisfaction. With the Goodwill harvested earlier they run the business now. They are famous for IDLY SAMBAR WITH SMALL ONION. EARLIRR for a plate of sambar idly one can have a minimum of thiry pieces of small onion. The taste was excellant while eating idly with small onion in sambar. Now a days small onion cannot be seen in the sambar. But they charge upnormally high RS 75 for two pieces of idly with 1 or 2 pieces of onion in sambar ( 13 th September 2023). Current customers are not more than 70 years old and they do not how much small onion was there in sambar. Present customers think that sambar will have one or two smallest size of onions since the floating cutomers are in huge. When I raiesd this issue with the supervisor there, he simply replied due to high rate of small onion they couldn't provide small onion in sambar. When they removed onion they should not increase the price. Fate of the customers is to pay Heavily for...

Worst service ever. Why has the restaurant lost its charm. Its due to its staff. Very curt attitude they had. I had orderd kara paniyaram \ kuzhli appam and filtered coffee . The women who wss assigned duty to cook paniyaram was rude to the bearer saying its not ready as yet and will take more time. Her tone was too high that it could be heard three rows of tables away. I hate to eat that way. After all we pay for our food and no hospitality. What kind of prana will we have if we eat such way...

I guess she was not a regular cook but only goes there to make paniyaram. Cancelled the order and just sipped in the coffee and was out. Coffee was also not very hot. At home we drink only tea and never make coffee . Hence i drink coffee only in selective places where they make good filter coffee.

The brands like Ratna cafe, grand sweets by opening too many branches , they are unable to cater to the quality and service. I don't enjoy a coffee when it's not served piping hot.

Infact shared my feeling to the manager there but in vain. Sometimes it makes me wonder am i too fussy🤣? Is everone okay with this kind of...

Had a worst experience with this hotel recently.

My family has been customer of Rathna cafe, ever since it's inception.. (from my mother's parents)... Mostly for its infamous sambhar... I have been a regular customer as well.. i used to visit this hotel whenever i visit Chennai... I follow a routine of visiting lord kableeshwarar temple and then breaking my fast here post 6pm...

However last Saturday (27th August, 2022), i recieved abysmal service from the hotel...

Wrong menu was provided... Food had too much salt and overcooked...And to my utter dismay, i was by one of the supervisor, to eat faster to vacate the seat and make way for waiting customers... He was passive aggressive and ride... I simply ate faster and left the premises...

Due to its legacy still thousands of people prong this place... But seems like management is least bothered about quality and customer service these days..

Really really disappointed and sad to see one of the finest restaurants going down the drain... If this continues... This establishment will meet it's end sooner or...
