Usha Cafe&Bakery — Restaurant in Bali

This place is a GEM!!! I can’t say enough how impressed we are with this place. Usha was definitely one of our highlights in Ubud. Just to preface, we stayed in Canggu for a week before coming here and were a bit spoiled by all the cafe options there. It was our second day in Ubud, and we were starting to lose hope in finding really good food, coffee, and vibe. And then we found Usha!

Our first visit at Usha we just finished eating lunch at a different restaurant, so we had no appetite, but out of curiosity we looked at their menu... Who would have known a menu could be so tantalizing?! Lol. After this moment, we committed to making this our regular spot for the remainder of our stay in Ubud. They even have hookah! My husband is a hookah connoisseur, and said this was some of the best hookah he has ever had.

Just a couple examples of their incredible hospitality: As the sun begins to set, they place mosquito repellant spray on the tables for the patrons. Another day we came and it was particularly hot, so they offered to place an additional fan by our table to make us even more comfortable.

Overall, we were so impressed with this place - you can tell the owner and manager (Masha) take a lot of pride in every aspect of the cafe - you can see it in the quality of the food, drinks, aesthetics, vibe, service, and DESSERTS! Omg! Did I mention their desserts are phenomenal and mind-blowing!!!

Here’s a list of all the items we ordered (and LOVED): (1) Exotic Smoothie, (2) Coconut Milk Latte, (3) Hookah - equal parts of Earl Grey & Mint, (4) Crepes with berries, (5) Crepes with Bali honey, (6) Cottage Cheese Pancakes, (7) Dumplings with meat, (8) Truffles - plain chocolate & salted caramel, (9) Cheburek with vegetables, (10) Merengue Raspberry Roll, (11) Garden Salad, (12) Herring Under the Fur Coat, (13) Seafood Pasta, and a (14) Napoleon.

You can’t even imagine how happy I was when I found out a cafe with Ukrainian/Russian food on Bali!

Unfortunately my happiness lasted not so long - only until I got the first dish in the restaurant. I was waiting for it more than 30 minutes! And it was only the first dish.

Overall, we visited a cafe as a company of 4 people, every person ordered something. While sitting in the cafe we saw very few people there except us - not a peak time.

Despite dishes were very tasty (and it’s great indeed), the longest cooking time for ordered dish was 1 hour (!!!). And it was easy dish - “cheburek” - I don’t think cooking of such meal tooks 1 hour (at least I’ve been to other restaurants cooking “chebureks” and they served it very quickly).

Another dish - “seafood pasta” - waitress came to us after ~20 minutes since we ordered everything and said “sorry but we don’t have shrimps, would you like to change shrimps to fish?”. Why didn’t she tell us this immediately after we ordered the dish? That’s the question I don’t have answer on.

Originally we wanted to order hookah there but decided not do it because we didn’t like how long we spent waiting for our order.

Of course, maybe they have bad day, it happens, but at least I expect waitress to keep us updated on what’s going on with our order and why it takes so long to...
