Xich Lo Canggu — Restaurant in Bali

Blown away. A morning to be remembered at Xich Lo Canggu.

I am writing this a day after having an incredibly wonderful experience, filled with learning (culture and cooking skills), laughter, and most importantly connection.

My wife and I signed up for Chung Le's Vietnamese cooking class with Chef Wayan providing detailed hands on instruction.

Driving over to the restaurant I was a little uncertain as to what I might learn and retain. As I walked toward the building I noticed how impeccable the landscaping was. On the side of the building was a sign pointing left to the permaculture garden, and the restaurant to the right. Upon entering the building we were greeted with introductions, coffee and tea, and a very attentive staff.

Everything necessary for the class, garden fresh greens, cutlery, portable stoves, etc. was beautifully laid out at the central dining table.

I am not going to say much more about what happened or what we cooked, only that Xich Lo is nothing less than opportunity to learn to express life as art. Find out for yourself.

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is genuinely delicious and took us right back to our time in Vietnam. Every dish is fresh, authentic, and bursting with flavour, which makes sense when you learn the head chef is from Vietnam, his expertise brings the cuisine to life in the most beautiful way.

The staff are incredibly kind and polite, with smiles that feel so warm and heartfelt. The atmosphere is just as special: the charming garden, adorned with lanterns hanging from the roof, added to the feeling of being back in Vietnam.

Their prices are super generous, and they often have fantastic offers, like 2 wines with spring rolls, crackers, and peanuts for just 125k. What’s even better is that their prices include service charge and tax, a huge bonus. Let’s be honest, no one enjoys calculating “++” at the end and not knowing the final price until it’s time to pay. More places should take a leaf out of their book.

Green and cozy Vietnamese restaurant in Canggu. I’ve been dining in this restaurant since Covid time when there was no massive constructions and invasion of new restaurants until now. I do amaze they are able to maintain their food quality, hospitality, and affordability in the midst of growing competition from new businesses.

Their food comes with generous portion and tasty! We ordered noodles salad and bbq pork with rice. I’ve tried their pho and it was delish! The waitress will check up on you to make sure everything is good, they’re very friendly and helpful. They have a beautiful small permaculture garden where they grow their own basil and chili 🌶️. Make sure to visit their garden when you’re waiting for your meals or after meals.
