I recently dined at Cork and Screw in Pacific Place, and while the ambiance and food were excellent, the overall experience was severely marred by the service.
Starting with the positives, the atmosphere at Cork and Screw is delightful. The decor is stylish, and the ambiance is perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The food was equally impressive, with each dish crafted to perfection, bursting with flavor and presented beautifully.
However, our experience was significantly tainted by the service we received. Despite making a reservation for a group of six and arriving ten minutes early, we were escorted to a holding table because our reserved dining table was still being prepared. This seemed reasonable at first, but the situation quickly deteriorated.
Fifteen minutes past our reservation time, our table was still occupied. The waitress informed us that the current occupants were finishing up. Thirty minutes later, we were told they were taking their bill. After forty-five minutes, we were still waiting, with the excuse now being that the other party was still dining. This was extremely frustrating, as we had made a reservation to avoid such delays.
An hour after our reservation time, the staff insisted we dine at the holding table, completely disregarding our reservation. At this point, we were understandably upset, and only then did a dining table miraculously become available for us.
Adding to our disappointment, a friend in our group, who is vegetarian, ordered a vegetarian pasta but found a small chicken bone on her plate. This was unacceptable and showed a lack of attention to dietary restrictions and care in food preparation.
In conclusion, while Cork and Screw Pacific Place offers a wonderful ambiance and delicious food, the service needs substantial improvement. Our reservation was not honored promptly, leading to a long and frustrating wait. The oversight with the vegetarian dish further added to our dissatisfaction. Better management of reservations and more attentive service are crucial to matching the quality of the food...
Read moreA nice all day dining restaurant bar, located at one of the prestigious place at Jakarta
Cork and Screw serves a combination of Western, Asian, and fusion take on cuisine, followed with a library of wines to taste and try.
We are served by Joaquin (Joji) and Reyhan, always at the bar, slinging drinks.
Here's all of my "adventures" at Cork and Screw Pacific Place:
Soto Betawi - Very Good A very good classic Jakarta dish executed well. They use samin oil to boost the aroma and umami, with all fresh ingredients. Don't forget the mandatory tender beef chunks.
Bihun Bebek - No Need to Try A poorly attempt on the beloved bihun bebek medan. Sour, not salty, not umami, they say the bebek is smoked, but I can't taste the smoky flavor and aroma.
Truffle Fries - Good A large portion of battered fries, with truffle aoli and mushroom ketchup. The fries doesn't contain truffle, and the highlight is actually the mushroom ketchup
C&S Burger - Good A play safe take and execution on the classic cheeseburger, followed with fries It's good.
Conro Shortrib - Very Good A good conro, with flavor rice (umami rice). Very fulfiling and satisfying on the aroma and taste. Must try.
Apart from the food, they have killer cocktails. You can also order custom or bespoke cocktail, tho beware on the hands of the bartenders.
Osmanthus - Very Good The name is osmanthus, but taste like what we Jakbarians call Songkit. Very nice, very balanced.
I also drank a lot of bespoke (they call it omakase cocktail, basically a custom cocktail), like Arrivedeci Roma by Reyhan and Kopyor, Brightside by Joaquin.
Also ask for love advice and drink advice from Joaquin, he seems to know a lot.
All in all, Cork and Screw is a very nice concept by Union, very...
Read moreCame here for weekend brunch, and had the tenderloin steak and eggs and loved it. The portions are generous, steak was juicy and perfectly done. Fried diced potatoes were crisp and well-seasoned with fresh rosemary. My only gripe about the plate was the poached eggs I requested, which ended up being very vinegary, rubbery and rippled-looking. If ordering poached eggs, tell the chef not to add vinegar to the water, or to be very judicious about the amount. I asked for a change of eggs, and the omelette turned out much better (quite fluffy). The Belgian waffles are the best I’ve had. The batter is extremely fragrant, resulting in a super crisp and light waffle. Maple syrup is surprisingly good quality (or very good pancake syrup). The Chantilly cream is to die for, and fruits are refreshingly tart. The Caesar salad with roast chicken was very good and generous, with an interesting aioli for sauce. The blackberry smoothie is super fragrant and complex, but lots of seeds so be warned. Great place for brunch (if you're not bothered by smoke since the smoking area is...
