Natrabu Minang Restaurant — Restaurant in Jakarta

This place is a complete rip off! I wrote a Google review (a positive one) only once in my life, this will be the second one. So here we go:

I wanted to enjoy some local food and found this Restaurant online with good ratings, so I went. I was a single guest and was shocked to be presented with a bill of IDR 285.000 (Indonesian Rupiah). This is about 18 bloody US Dollars!! What the heck?? The food was really nothing special, the chicken had barely any meat on it. This is food you can find on any street corner outside. They serve you a variety of dishes without asking you prior. They put it on your table and you start eating. 2 pieces of chicken, 2 pieces of Rendang, 2 pieces of fish, you get the idea. You pay per piece, not per portion!! Strange serving system. Probably Indonesians are familiar with this style. But when you are a tourist then beware!! Value for money? For 18 USD? NO! I came to know Natrabu stands for National Travel Bureau - the waiter answered my question politely when I had lunch here. The taste and the atmosphere here was very Indonesian and very West Sumatera (West Sumatera usually referenced as "Minang").

I was born and raised by a Minang family and served Minang food since I was a small kid. Having lunch here feels like I'm having lunch at my parent's house there in my home town - Natrabu served a very authentic Minang food. From the aftertase, I can suspect they prepared the food very seriously and the type of rice served here was a special high-grade rice.

About the bills, well, there's a price for a good quality food. If you really want to have a special Minang food and you have the budget, I would recommend you to come here. But if you only have a very limited budget, I would suggest you to visit other restaurant.
