Hmmm.. went into salt and sizzle with very high expectations, after seeing all the 5star reviews on tiktok and on google. Maybe it was my high expectations that led to disappointment. We ordered the MB7 Australian Coffee Rubbed steak (400gm).
First things first, not a big fan of how the menu is displayed (be it intentionally/unintentionally) that for the main steaks, prices are shown only per 100gm. There is also a minimum amt that you have to order (eg. for ours, it was 400gm so it was the price x4) While I understand some diners may indulge in bigger cuts or smaller ones, not having the minimum amount you have to order is quite shady and may be quite off-putting. (I have no qualms about paying for it, I came for good steak and without saying that means I would be willing to pay for good steak too.)
Think of it as a sunk cost fallacy, you’ve already reserved your seat days/weeks ago and they’ve taken the time to seat you and to explain the menu, to leave after finding out would only make any normal person feel embarrassed.
I think it would be better to put the minimum gms you have to order for each steak and how much it would cost; be transparent.
Anyways, I figured that this steak was quite pricey even for my standards but like I said, I was willing to pay. So we proceeded with the order of the steak along with the mushroom soup and a side of fries. They explained about the minimum amt to order after we asked about it.
The mushroom soup was probably one of the better ones I’ve had, there was a smoky taste that I really enjoy. Might have been the best dish of my dinner at S&S.
So there came the performance of the steak being grilled in front of you, and if how much the performance made me desire the steak actually equated to the taste of the steak, it would’ve been out of this world. However that’s not how life works and things don’t equate like that, so when I excitedly cut and put the first cut of the steak in my mouth, there was a visible disappointment on my face.
How do I describe it.. hmm… “Is MB7 Australian Wagyu steak supposed to taste like this?” I thought as I swiftly picked up my phone to search what quality was MB7 for steaks.
The steak wasn’t really tender and it certainly doesn’t melt in your mouth for a wagyu of this price. I’ve had better steaks that AREN’T wagyu at better price points too. Not saying that it was awfully bad, but it certainly wasn’t worth the 1.3million rp or so we were paying for this 400gms. Call me uncultured but the so called coffee rub didn’t amount to much and the taste of the steak wasn’t really all that to rave about too.
I mean.. this was a 1.3million rp steak? My expectations will definitely be out of the world. Needless to say, our mood was dampened not because we were cheapos and felt that our money had been wasted, rather that the lack of a good steak when we were so looking forward to this caused it. Of course I could’ve played it safe and headed to our usual joint (shall not mention because this is a review afterall), but you never know if you never try. Alas, now I know.
Also, we had ordered fries but the order was forgotten until the missus enquired about the order and it had to be re-ordered.
Now for the plus points, afterall this is a 3 star review, not a 1 or 0 star review.
The service was really good, there was even a written card with the name you reserved for. Made you feel welcome (and excited to chomp on a really sumptuous steak.) Service was prompt and friendly, my only minus was the fries but happens to the best of us. 4 stars for service. They even shifted us to a bigger table (of course, this was after we had ordered the 1.3million rp steak (might have even been more than 1.3mil, im not counting), not sure if we would’ve been able to move if we had just ordered the smaller dishes)
Atmosphere was nice, small cosy place with private VIP rooms, however the cooking-in-front-of-you thing will leave your clothes smelling like smoke and the room smoked out too.
Overall, a 3/5, everything was decent ironically except the...

Read moreIt is a good steak restaurant in Jakarta. Great service from all the waiters. They all are fast respond, kind and smile a lot. Also, they have great skill of presentation. When we first came in and sat down, they welcomed us very warm. Then one of the waiters came to our table and offered us all the meat variety that they had. He indeed had a knowledge of steak dictionary. After we ordered, few minutes later, there was complimentary bread for all the guests. Not long after that, the steak came exactly as we ordered, medium, and the cook came to our table also and again greeted us, told us his name and then he cooked the steak again in front of us. He prepared the steak with great presentation, i tell you, he was very skillful in cooking and presenting the steak until the steak is done and ready to serve. One more thing, the tea is very recommended. I am a tea lover, and i say this is one of the best tea i have ever drank. There is no doubt the service is at its excellence. The steak was good. The restaurant is a little bit small if i may say. But it is a good decorated restaurant similar like common restaurant in Italy, i guess. When the service is that good, there is always a price for that. Prepare yourself to spend quite high, to enjoy the experience and also the food. PS: dine in here when it is your birthday, there is a complimentary dessert for...
