If you’re looking for a cozy coffee shop with a Japanese-inspired concept, TERU Coffee in Barito, Jakarta, is worth a visit. The minimalist interior, dominated by white tones and wooden elements, creates a calm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for both work and leisure.
Each table is equipped with power outlets, and the internet speed is an impressive 200 Mbps, making it an ideal spot for working from a café. They also provide excellent facilities, including clean restrooms and a prayer room (musholla), which is a nice touch.
As a fan of city pop, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Junko Ohashi playing in the background. Most cafes in Jakarta typically stick to Miki Matsubara or Tatsuro Yamashita, so this was a refreshing change.
Their espresso was fantastic, with distinct and well-balanced notes. We also tried their private collection beans for filter coffee, which tasted unique. It reminded me of Indonesian jasmine tea with its slight acidity and floral undertones, yet it was still unmistakably coffee.
For lunch, we ordered the Chicken Curry and Unagi Roll. Both dishes were impressive, especially the Unagi Roll, which had generous portions of unagi and prawn, unlike most Japanese places that tend to be rice-heavy.
The only thing I’d give feedback on is their matcha latte. It didn’t quite meet my expectations, though I suspect the issue lies more with the quality of the matcha powder rather than their brewing technique. That said, it’s a small note, and I rarely find matcha lattes in Jakarta that fully satisfy my personal preferences.
TERU Coffee exceeded our expectations, and we’re already planning to return. The team mentioned they’ll be open again next Monday, and I’d be more than happy to visit for another workday or simply to enjoy their amazing coffee and food.
Highly recommend it for anyone seeking a serene spot in Jakarta with great coffee, good food, and a...
Read moreI went here for farewell party of a work colleague and this place is chosen because it was always reasonably crowded. The place is pretty, it was elegant and there is an outdoor area that looks quite pleasant too. When I first got in, the coffee smell was very nice.
However, the food are just simply average. They serve japanese fusion style food, which are not my cup of tea. I ordered Tuna Mentai Don and we ordered their sushi roll and Teru honey bread for share.
The presentation/visual is nice, but the taste is just okay. The tuna is fully cooked, topped with mentai sauces. It's not bad, but when you get used to authentic japanese food, you may know how it feels eating these "fusion style" food. If you almost never tried japanese food before such as sushi/sashimi/chirashi/teishoku/etc, this may be a good entry point into the world of japanese cuisine. I think it should cater to the taste buds of average people.
But when you get used to truly good japanese food, this seems like a "wannabe". The honey toast are a bit burned and has this slight bitter taste if you get the wrong cut, and it's miles away from good honey toast bread.
If you're a newcomer to Japanese food, this place is okay. However, if you enjoy authentic, decent-quality Japanese food regularly, I wouldn’t recommend trying this place to pique...
Read moreOften come here for work since the atmosphere, lighting, and seating are very condusive. The music was not very loud, often playing Japanese or K-Pop music. The coffee are really good for me. It's strong enough even without the extra shot (for ice coffee), but i still request extra shot sometimes. I tried several food, the hamburg rice bowl, the noodle, Shoyu Chicken, and Avocado Salmon Appetizer (forget the full-name), all food taste good. Especially like the avocado salmon, but it's an appetizer so the portion is really small, not recommended it you are really hungry. If you come here for working, they have electricity socket (colokak) almost at every table (but not in the outdoor table). Parking is quite limited tho. On the weekdays, it's very suitable for working, but on the weekends it's often very packed and crowded, so it's noisy even though the music was not loud. The menu is not really Japanese(?), but Japanese inspired i think. They don't have sushi, but they have ramen. The price it's typical for South-Jakarta cafe, quite pricey, eating alone can cost 150K-200K. I recommend it either you want to work or just want to hang out...
