We would go to Mulia's Sunday brunch Buffet (The cafe) every year in Bali. But it's our first time trying The Soleil Brunch Buffet. We're quite disappointed at the service management, as well as the food. It is a mixed of buffet style and A la carte. SEAFOOD: No lobster. Only 1 time of Oyster & prawns (beginning of the buffet). They don't replace the oyster even when it's finished. Prawns were over cooked. GENERAL HOT/COLD FOOD: majority catered for caucasian, even when it says Asian cuisine there's only a few and they're definitely not authentic, it's fusion. Very limited Japanese food choices.
DESSERT: Extremely disappointed, most cakes are dried. Apple crumble but can't taste the apple. Fruit choices were limited to 3-4 choices, and were cut into tiny pieces which doesn't look appetizing or presentable for a 5 star resort Buffet. ICECREAM: was told only 5 choices to choose from: (strawberry, vanilla, choc, pistachio, rum raisin) you need to ask for icecream they don't put it out. Icecream tastes terrible, we asked for pistachio & rum raisin, just green colour, no pistachio taste at all. It was the worse icecream I've tried in a 5 star resort.
STAFF: Very lost, confused, particularly at the start of the buffet & throughout the whole 2 hours there. Brought us wrong order of both food and drinks more than 3-4 times from the A la carte menu. They gave us other people's order. Asked a staff to take some orders, he came over & told us to wait then he walked somewhere else. After a while we saw him taking orders for other foreigners (Caucasians) first when he was called. This happened 2-3 times throughout the brunch. I'm not sure if this is just a shortage of staff, or something else. I mean the overall experience was chaos inside the resturant.
ENVIRONMENT/AMBIENT: fairly crowded in the resturant, difficult to move around to get food. Not a very comfortable, relaxing environment to enjoy the food as there were so many people crowded inside a small area. Just chaos & chaos.
Recommendation: The Soliel brunch is basically catered for caucasian both the food as well as the service attendants on the floor (they do attend to the Caucasians first). Majority of their clientele were westerner, and afterall this is a business so they do focus more on their target market. If you drink alcohol perhaps you will enjoy the ongoing alcohol service, of course you pay for the alcohol package. For $100 AUD/person after tax without alcohol or fresh juice. We think it is not worth in Bali. Better off go to St Regis for approx 60 AUD before tax. We did not enjoy the food or the service nor the environment in Soliel comparing to other 5 stars resort buffet in Bali. So we won't...
Read moreEverything was delicious, the ambiance was amazing! The staff were so friendly and kind, getting to know you every step of the way. I definitely want to come back! I see why the are rated as #1 brunch experience in Bali.
FUNNY STORY- This was my friend's and I first time in Bali, and we wanted to treat ourselves to a lovely Sunday Brunch, and Soleil at Mulia was highly recommended. We were thinking that this was just a standard buffet experience - meaning you go up to all the different tables, maybe bring back a couple plates of various foods to your table, and eat until you're full then leave when you're done eating. Throughout the hour we were there, the staff kept bring us various appetizers apart from our multiple buffet plates we had at the table. We were so confused, asking each other "did we order this?" because there wasn't a menu and saying "I don't know what's happening anymore". We thought "oh maybe this just a little, 1-2 amuse bouche before we get food from the buffet, but the plates kept coming! Our stomachs were so full from the buffet and all of the appetizers. We asked for the check and EVERYONE AROUND US (guests and staff) were so shocked that we were leaving so early. We asked them to explain the experience to us again, and turns out, this was a buffet AND an a la carte experience. There were more a la carte plates coming (we were going to miss out on a pasta plate, some more meat appetizers and desert a la carte) and the entire experience was booked until 3pm (our reservations were at 11am). In other words, THIS IS A 3-4 HOUR BRUNCH EXPERIENCE. We were laughing at our misunderstanding with everyone but also we were so full we could not fit into our dresses anymore (the laughter was an ab workout). Looking back at the experience, I do recall people not lining up for the buffet tables and everyone was eating very small portions. When we went to get some deserts, the staff member at the table even asked "desert already?". Now we know why!
I highly advise that you come hungry, but don't eat the buffet queues like you normally would at a...
Read moreI would say to all people - never ever to go there to stay/to eat/ join their brunches. Just don’t go there. It’s not 5 star place. The level of service is worst than any simple warung at the road. Unbelievably impudent, rude and ignorant staff ever.
In the beginning no one met us and we asked few of staff to bring us menu. But they didn’t react. And then I went to reception to take it by myself.
Table was dirty after previous customers and I asked twice to clean it, but they didn’t, just brought our drinks and plates and put it on dirty table. Waiters were very intrusive with inappropriate conversations and jokes, said stupid compliments to me and tried to speak russian words. Like it’s funny. But it was just confusing. Just a cringe.
Then waiter brought wrong pasta. We said we didn’t order it. They took it back to the kitchen and after 5 minutes again brought it to us and said - I forgot to tell u, it’s compliment from our chef🤣 What the weird actions.
When we finished dinner they didn’t clean up empty plates, didn’t ask us about desert and maybe more drinks. They were just avoiding us. I went to reception again to ask the bill. Reception girls also were not nice and looked and talked arrogant all the time. So all the staff like never being trained for how to give a service and be polite, just have enough of skills for stupid rude flirting and questions which they shouldn’t ask, but not enough just for basic service.
And at the end. We forgot there our towels and I realised it when we were on the way home. We forgot it right at the table where we had dinner. And I texted to restaurant reception to check it and NO ONE helped us. They just replied - sorry we don’t know where is ur towels. I’m sure they even didn’t try to find it.
I’m living in Bali years and I also own restaurants. And as a restaurateur I’m visiting many places. Dinner in Mulia was one of the worst dinner in my life. No needed to say that if I’m going to expensive 5 star place I expect...
