Vintage Vibe, Aesthetically Pleasing Food, and Cool Breezy Seatings
Interior, Design, & Atmosphere: This place presents itself as something you might already be familiar with. It feels old but not rundown, more of a vintage classic vibe. They don't use AC, but the indoor or outdoor seating is not hot. There's ample airflow, allowing cool breezes to enter. There are some artifacts, paintings, and other decorations scattered around, making it pleasing and aesthetic to the eye. It also allows guests to take Instagrammable photos with a Vietnamese theme. The seating is quite limited; I didn't get a choice for indoor seating, but nevertheless, the outdoor seating was good, if not better than the indoor. The long outdoor table where I was seated vibrated a lot. This might be due to the constant traffic on Legian Road, which could frustrate someone looking to sit outdoors.
Food & Taste: This was my first time eating Vietnamese food, so I'm not qualified to say whether the food is authentic or not. However, as someone who eats out a lot, I can say that the dishes were absolutely delicious. I ordered both the Beef Pho (Soup Noodles) and Pork Banh Mi (Sandwich). The Beef Pho was perfectly balanced. This dish shines in its simplicity. There's nothing overpowering; each element of the dish complements the others. It's a simple taste, but not bland. Each bite is rich in flavor. For the Banh Mi, the best word to describe it is "fresh." The bread tasted newly madeโcrunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. All the filling was well-proportioned from the meat fillings to the sweet sauce and vegetables. Again, I've never eaten Vietnamese food before, but that was simply my experience.
Service: The service was lacking a bit. There was no one to seat the guests. It was difficult to notify the waiter to order as they were always rushing back and forth. But something like this is always expected at a busy and bustling restaurant, so there's nothing to complain about.
Price: Considering the quality, freshness, and portions you get, it is actually quite cheap. I say this because they give quite a lot of meat in their dishes, and usually, when Indonesia has meat involved (especially beef), the prices skyrocket. But here, they don't shy away when it comes to meat; they go all out. All prices do not include the governmental and service charge fee.
NOTE: The special size is a huge bowl. I thought it would be for one person, but it could be for 2-3 people ๐
Overall: Definitely something to check out. Some might say the Pho looks similar to the Indonesian bakso, but they are...
ย ย ย Read moreMediocre Vietnamese food at best. Our food wasn't fresh and the flavors weren't great.
The spring rolls had dried out to the point I could barely bite through them. Truly leathery texture that I had to show to my partner. Sad start.
Next the coffee came out. The second worst coffee I've had in Bali. I drink it black, and it passed "earthy" add just tasted moldy. I don't think the beans are being stored properly. Foul. My partner couldn't even drink hers with the condensed milk.
The pho was another disappointment. Overly salty. It might be the first pho in my life that I didn't finish. I tried my best to cover the taste. I had a big bottle of water on standby and used three big scoops of the chili oil. It only helped, but my mouth still feels like the salt flats. Again, points to sitting too long without being checked and rehydrated.
My partner said her bun cha Ha Noi was nothing special. Not terrible, but not really good either.
Service was great and the menu was so cute and amazing. I wanted to love this place so bad, but no amount of cute and educating menu can make up for stale food ๐ข
I'm blessed by years of living in an area with a strong Vietnamese community.
I've been invited to join in on family dinners, had neighbors drop off spring rolls, and had Pho in nearly every city I've visited.
I have a strong appreciation for Vietnamese food and eat it weekly at home. This was just a disappointment.
I hope and pray that this was just an unlucky bad experience. I loved the menu and the concept. Maybe this location needs more attention from...
ย ย ย Read moreThe food was so tasty!! It definitely satisfied out vietnamese food cravings in Bali. The portions were spot on and for sure put us in food coma after. ๐
The spring rolls here were super crunchy and tasted delicious!! ๐ Loved their vietnamese platter because OMG you literally get to taste everything ๐ They give you two options; one with pork and one without. My favourite from the platter was the cha tom (shrimp)! ๐ค Wrapping it in lettuce with rice noodles, pickled veggies and dipping it in nuoc mam! The best!!
The bun thit nuong was a nice and light meal. I found the meat to be not as fragrant and a little dry. The one with chicken was more tender and flavourful.
Their flan was unfortunately a let down, as it wasn't as custardy, eggy and smooth compared to your traditional flan. The coffee flavour however, was prominent and the sauce added the sweetness it needed. ๐ฎ
For drinks, we got their pineapple juice and bac xiu (white coffee). This was my first time having bac xiu and it was really really good - recommend. The pineapple juice was also a let down as it tasted extremely diluted. ๐
Overall, great spot to visit for some Vietnamese food, because it was delightful.
