Disappointing Experience at Spice Mantraa Indian Cuisine
Having been regular customers at Spice Mantraa Indian Cuisine, our repeated visits were motivated by the convenience of its location near our hotel. However, after our third visit, we are left disheartened by the noticeable decline in both service and quality.
Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, with only two tables occupied when we arrived, we were met with unnecessary formality as the receptionist asked if we had a reservation.
We had dined here twice before without a reservation and found the place quite accommodating.
On this visit, we were placed at a table that we did not prefer, even though other tables were available. The issues continued with the welcome chips. Typically, they serve two small plates for our group of five adults, but this time we received just one small plate. When we pointed out that this was insufficient, the waiter insisted it was enough, though it was clearly not. To make matters worse, we noticed that the Indian couple at a nearby table received a full plate.
Service was dreadfully slow. We experienced long waits to place our orders, delays in receiving our food, and even longer waits when we requested the bill. The staff's professionalism left much to be desired, as they seemed indifferent to our needs.
Given our experiences, we would recommend exploring other Indian dining options in Kuta. We had a pleasant experience at Queen's of India with excellent service, and our friends enjoyed Bollywood Masalaz, which came highly recommended for both its food and service.
Spice Mantraa Indian Cuisine falls short compared to these alternatives, making it clear that there are better choices nearby for those seeking quality...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at what was supposed to be a prestigious, high-end restaurant but let me tell you, it was anything but an upscale affair. If I could give this place zero stars, I would!
First of all, I had expected a refined ambiance with pleasant background music, but what I got was a raucous and deafening party scene. The music was obnoxiously loud. Also, there were multiple tour buses doing the dinner there, so there were well over a hundred people crammed into a room, making it impossible to have a decent conversation without yelling. If I wanted to shout over the music, I would have gone to a nightclub, not a supposed fine dining establishment.
The chaos extended beyond the noise. The service was an absolute disaster. It felt like there were more waitstaff running around in panic than customers. Our orders were forgotten and mistaken multiple times, and when the food finally arrived, it was a complete disappointment. Everything was overly salted, especially the fish tikka, as if the chef had mistakenly dumped an entire saltshaker on each plate. For the prices they were charging, I expected much more finesse in the culinary department. It took us at least 30 minutes just to get our check so we could pay and get out of there.
Overall, my visit was an absolute nightmare. From the chaotic and deafening environment to the lackluster food and subpar service, I couldn't wait to escape from that chaotic mess. Save your money and sanity by avoiding this so-called high-end restaurant. There are plenty of other establishments that actually value their customers and deliver the experience...
Read moreWe recently visited this restaurant with our family while on a trip. As we were having lunch, our small children, who are both under 2 years old, were playing near the table. Being toddlers, they are still learning how to handle things like chairs and tables. After some time, we were shocked when the staff accused us of causing significant damage to one of their wooden chairs.
The marks they pointed out were numerous and unusually deep—far more than what could reasonably be caused in just 45 minutes by toddlers. Despite trying to explain our situation, the staff insisted that we pay a large sum of money for the damages. When we offered to pay a more reasonable amount, they became aggressive, used inappropriate language, and even threatened to call the police.
We also noticed that there were CCTV cameras installed right in front of our table. We requested to review the footage to clarify the situation, but the staff claimed that the footage was too dark and that the camera did not cover our table—effectively refusing to show us any proof.
Since we were tourists and didn’t want to escalate the situation or ruin our day, we reluctantly paid the amount they demanded. The restaurant was recommended to us by a local commission-based agent, and while it may appear reputable based on photos and online reviews, we now suspect those may be misleading.
We are sharing this to warn other families—especially those with young children—to be extremely cautious. No family should be put in such a distressing situation, especially in a foreign country. Please think twice before visiting this...
