Expensive and overpriced, much better option in town at a better value. I was sincerely unimpressed last night during our dinner, the dishes were small and expensive (add to that a generous 16% surcharge which make them terribly overpriced), ok flavours but don't expect a culinary experience. Serious lack of texture which make the overall experience just what most people would expect from Raw vegan. It doesn't have to be that simple, just keep looking around and you'll find a raw vegan restaurant in town that goes beyond common perception and impresses all around. We had the cannelloni:stuffing and marinara sauce weren't bad, zucchini however truly let the plate down as they not only did not taste great but had no work whatsoever done to them, raw doesn't mean you cannot play with it a little, maybe dehydrate them a bit, do something, or don't charge an arm and a leg for it cause the value simply isn't there. Cashew cream was just the same as their other dishes, plain, they didn't even bother giving it a little twist to pair with the dish, a little spice, a touch of lemon zest or something, nothing.. The dish itself was so simple.. At no point you ask yourself "how do they do this?", it is just obvious and so easy to replicate and improve at home. If I pay this kind of money in Ubud I want to be impressed and this definitely did not happen. The spinach quiche had better flavours but the crust was so poor and soft and chewy and starchy, again no effort to create a similar texture to an actual quiche. Play with all the techniques allowed by a raw vegan cuisine and your dishes will gain another dimension. The best part in this dish was probably the salad, great dressing and greens, but I mean I don't pay that kind of money for a good salad. Juices are good but again, way way way overpriced! Our neighbours had the Nachos, 5-6 "chip" which was enough for them to eat half of their condiments with it and then were left with so much guacamole, salsa etc... The waitress came and cleared them without offering more chips so I assume it is not complimentary but will have to confirm.
Finally, they charge 6% for service, this being an extremely rare practice in Ubud you would expect the service to be better than elsewhere. It isn't bad don't give me wrong, but not better for sure. Nobody comes and check how everything is, recommendations are not comfortably made, water isn't topped up when you need it... Too many mistakes if you want to include a tip on the checks.
So overall, a terribly disappointing experience, I will not give them a third chance at this stage as nothing encouraged me to in the two experiences we had there...

Read moreVery much overrated. I heard so much about how good Alchemy was and that I really should try it. So I did. But I was dissapionted to be fair. When we entered it smelled as if the food was spoiled and overdue. The interior was very nice. But half of the things on the menu where not availible and the service is a disaster. The waitress did not even apologized for the fact that almost everything we asked for was not there... She acted as it was normal. After we finally managed to order from what was there. And that for 12:30pm on a midweek day... The waitress immediately brought the dessert and the cheescake started to melt. So I tried to catch her but did not manage. So I went to the bar myself and asked if they can bring the dessert after the main dish... To me this serving order is obvious, but ok... So the barmen said they will put it in the fridge for me. The drinks arrived and the ice coffee was not tasty at all. It tasted sour... The main dish was nice it looked beautiful. But to be fair you can get that quality of food in many places in Ubud. So when I was done with the main I asked for my cheesecake. There was some confusion about the fact that I already got it... But after some conversations I finally got my half melted cheesecake back. It was so so. There are several places around where you can get much better vegan/raw desserts. In my opinion this place is much overpopularized. It did not meet the expectations and it is not a place that I would visit twice. Bad service, OK food, bad smell,...
