The Malfina is next-door neighbours with the more sizzling Diana, but don't overlook it. It's got the most eclectic and exotic ambience among Gili Meno restaurants by far. Recycled plastic waste has been creatively used by painting them with flashy neon colours to create a vibrant, eye-catching space that delights as you approach this open restaurant on the beach. The seating is expansive, from wooden tables and chairs under an awning to deck chairs with cushions under sun umbrellas on the beach. The rustic, bamboo bar and order counter is small and manned by friendly and cheerful staff. The prices are extremely moderate and the food and beverages delicious. I ordered a chocolate pancake and mango juice for dessert, after having lunch at Diana. The pancake came with banana and watermelon slices to my pleasantly surprised delight! They have a ‘laid-back’ kind of reggae vibe here which is all well and good if they are still actually providing a decent service, but from our experience the service and attendance from the staff couldn’t be worse.
We were asked by three seperate staff members if we had ordered yet and one guy even asked us if we wanted some mushrooms which is really out of order while sitting in a restaurant!! There is no communication between the workers and they just all hung around the bar area talking to each other while 90% of the guests had no food on their tables.
