Mama’s Garden — Restaurant in West Nusa Tenggara

I think, based on the comments, that we didn't go the best day. The staff is nice but the food wasn't good. We ordered the famous spinach noodles and they were overcooked, making a big and sticky ball impossible to swallow, also totally bland. Also the salad was flavourless and the vegetables didn't have any spice or salt apart from the sauce, so it was difficult to eat. The ingredients seemed like they have been there for a while so not any freshness. The purple potato was bland, and the falafel had a weird texture, like chewie gum. The only thing we did like was the hummus. We didn't end up happy because its not cheap compared to the prices in the island, and we thought we would enjoy the food way more. Definitely room for improvement. But, again, maybe we didn't go the best day or maybe this kind of food...

Based on all the good reviews we had high expectations of Mama's Garden. Maybe we were there on a bad day, but we don't understand the high rating. The mango used for the smoothie wasn't ripe and did not taste good. We didn't finish our drinks and that doesn't happen often. The chickpea falafel was alright, though I wouldn't call it falafel. But it was the service that put us off. We were the only customers and didn't see much of the staff. When the food got served the lady just put it on the far side of the table without eye contact or a word, already turning around as she was putting down the plates. Unfortunately dinner at Mamas Garden left my brother and I with stomach issues and when I looked back at the picture of my tempeh curry, I am not very surprised. There was one staff member running the entire place by himself; front of house, serving and cooking… perhaps he didn’t know the dishes very well.

The curry tasted like a watery vegetable stock and I am glad I didn’t finish it because I’m afraid I would’ve felt worse if I had.
