We ordered 1 Sake (Salmon) Nigiri for starter and from the hot food menu, we ordered 1 Korean Fried Chicken & 1 Japanese Curry with tofu. As for the Japanese Curry, other than tofu, the other options are chicken or prawns. The sushi is dry and not fresh but I guess okay for the price. When they served us the curry, it was some sauce in a bowl with vegetables sans the tofu. The waitress simply said, and I quote “we ran out of tofu, would you like an egg?” without even running it by us first if we still wanted the curry without the tofu (especially because the other options are with meat) or even offering us a single ‘sorry’! We agreed for an egg substitute. Another waiter came later with a bowl of diced raw tofu (not an egg). He said “we just forgot to add the tofu in, I can take it back to the kitchen to mix them in if you want?” We absolutely do not mind if it is an honest mistake and all the staffs were super lovely (well except the one who claimed they ran out of tofu but actually forgot) but we feel like they have been dishonest with us. What disappointed us the most is the curry itself. It seems like they’ve used some sort of cube instead of fresh ingredients and forgot to heat it and stir properly. We found so many lumps and chunks of undissolved curry paste and it made eating hard as you have to sort the lumps out. We will never go again.

Perfect little spot on a rainy day - I asked at the counter for vegan options, and the staff member there was a little thrown initially. We settled on a selection of vegan sushi and a small bowl of miso soup in the end. Both were delicious, and I was very happy with my food. Space is at a premium, though, so I wouldn't recommend coming in with several shopping bags and an umbrella on a miserable day. However, it's a cosy place and once you're seated, it's kinda hard to leave. I love coming here, and it's somewhat of a Cork institution by now. Well worth supporting a small, local business rather than going for some big chain food which you can get anywhere.

I am not usually the type to leave a bad review online, however I think in this circumstance it is warranted, and will serve as a warning to future customers! First and foremost, I have been to Dashi Sushi on a few other occasions and I think it is fair to say that the staff are not the friendliest/boarding on rude. So with that said, I never have high hopes regarding the service but overall I have enjoyed the food.

This evening I was really looking forward to treating myself to some sushi as I had some child free time. Upon entering I placed my order and as I was waiting to ask the staff member for a straw, I took a short video of the sushi on the display counter to send to my friend. There was no member of staff near me or even in the direction I was filming. As I was still waiting for service I could see the two women talking and frowning to one another until eventually the owner came to me and asked me why I was recording in her restaurant. I was honestly in such shock and taken back by the tone at which she approached me. I told her I took a short video of the sushi to send to my friend, which she again asked why, and replied that it was a strange thing to do! Implying I some kind of nefarious motives for doing so which was absolutely not the case. She also implied I had recorded her staff member and I have no idea why they thought this- or why I would want to do this? Obviously this video was taken as I liked the display! She said ‘did you not see the sign on our door’ to which I said no, clearly I did not. I looked for a sign as I left but didn’t see one then either so maybe make a bigger sign of it’s this much of an issue? To go out of your way to embarrass and argue with someone when it’s pretty clear they are not doing anything malicious is pretty crazy and a sure way to lose customers. She went on asking why I did this once again highlighting how it was strange behaviour on my part! Clearly trying to embarrass me and continue an argument. I was speechless because in this day and age- is it really strange to take photos or videos in a restaurant? They even have a whole section of their own instagram dedicated to customers photos/videos. I also sent them the recording I took to prove that nobody was in it. She then told me I was getting defensive- and when I tried to diffuse the situation by saying I think it was a misunderstanding and that she got the wrong end of the stick- she snapped back at me. You really couldn’t make it up. There were so many better ways she could of approached this situation but unfortunately she choose a bad one, hence my negative review. If she had kindly told me they didn’t like videos being taken on the premises that is no problem- instead she chose to accuse me of videoing a staff member with zero proof, keep prying at me and insinuate what I did was weird when it was not.

I was so mortified as all the other customers overheard the whole thing and were clearly made feel uncomfortable also. I sat down to wait for my food as I didn’t want it to ruin my evening, however the atmosphere was noticeably bad and I was made to feel very unwelcome for the duration of my meal. I would say this is the strange behaviour- not mine.

I can confirm I will not be back and will be telling...

Chocking experience! Overcharged/ Owner arguing with staff in front of everyone

We decided to drive to the city which is 40 mins away from us for some sushi. Sushi was tasty enough even though some of them looked like it had been sitting there for a while (not fresh) but still very average, don’t understand the reviews about the sushi been great. The problem starts with the facilities, it looked super dirty, we had to sit right next to loads of boxes and random things. The fridges were on top of lots of bricks, when I opened it to get a coke it nearly fell on me. They use a lot of plastic/single use utensils which also looks very cheap.

The worst thing was that we clearly overpaid for the food, I was charged €50 euros for a bit of sushi which I didn’t question at first but them a few items of my order were missing (after overpaying for them as you pay in advance). I questioned the waitress and she was pretty resistant, I had to reorder what was missing and them she brought me a new bill to pay. It would be nearly €60 for a bit of sushi. I had to go through each of the items ordered a few times (trying to be very friendly still) to explain that I had been overcharged and things were missing which was a bit of pain cause she didn’t want to listen. But in the end she understood that everything was paid for me and she said sorry.

Worst part now: the owner of the place heard it and came giving out to the poor waitress in front of everyone! Omg what a scene! They were arguing for about 10 minutes, the owner was extremely rude to her and to us. We tried to defend the girl saying these things happen and the owner told my husband to sit down and wait??? We had a baby and had finished eating/paid for it but we had to sit down and wait for them to finish arguing very badly with everyone watching. She even said that we were “50 cents richer” in the end as if we were disputing the bill to take advantage of her. (And we had actually overpaid).

Here is for the owner: please don’t treat your employees (and clients) like that! Its one of the rudest thing I ever seen. We left the place pretty choked/nervous

EDIT: Owner’s reply to this review totally shows the level of business/treatment they have towards their clients. Attacking a 21 months old child...
