Boojum — Restaurant in Cork

If I could give this place fewer than 1 stars I would. I cannot believe the experience I had yesterday. The staff were as brash as they were curt while addressing me. I'm not sure where this ill-mannered approach to customer service suddenly came from as this establishment used be so friendly.

To add salt to a flame, they got my order completely wrong. There was no meat in my chicken burrito bowl, and it was 90% rice. The remaining 10% was primarily a teaspoon of cheese and salsa.

Worst of all is that this was a dinner to be shared with my young son and I. When I went home and saw his little smile, it warmed my heart. Though this didn't last long as his smile turned into a quivering lip and tear filled eyes. At first I was confused why the sudden change of attitude in little Billy. He then pointed at the burrito bowl I was taking out of the bag and said "Daddy what's wrong with dinner"? Oh gosh, how does a father tackle this. "I don't know son but everything will be ok", I lied.

We enjoyed our bowl of expensive rice as best we could but now I'm trying my best to put this all behind me. I just first had to put my experience out in the open so others can be warned of the discourteous nature of the staff and their propensity to get...

Pre-Pandemic this used to be a 5 star review and it breaks my burrito-filled heart to drop 2 stars here. I used to be a regular, eating here 3-4 times a week, getting those tasty calories into my body that runs on salsa and rice.

Ever since the pandemic it's not a pleasure anymore, because the orders always end up wrong. Whenever I was allowed to travel I would get on my motorcycle and drive 30km just to get to this place and pick up my food. I took the risk lying to the Garda at checkpoints that I had an important meeting in a hospital so they let me through.

I can't really say what the problem is, but the place seems understaffed at the moment.

My food ends up having wrong ingredients, at one time even a whole avocado pit in it. I've been charged for a meal when they scanned my loyalty card for a free meal. The staff always seems to be under pressure.

Again, I used to love this place and would love to see them turning things around. I just can't recommend it...

REWRITTEN REVIEW JULY 2023

Pains me to write this review but this place and it's standards have been slipping over the last year while concurrently the prices have been edging upwards.

Last year, I must have gotten Deliveroo refunds on at least 5-7 orders with a mixture of wrong ingredients, complete lack of ingredients (ordered 'extra' chilli, got 90% rice, 10% meat, or just awfully tasting ingredients (beans rock solid, rice overdone, burrito bread not fresh).

Seemed a massive trend in 2022 that the quality of take out in Cork was slipping while prices increased! That's NOT how it works guys!

I took a 6 month break from ordering from this place and just recently ordered (through Deliveroo) 1 x Burrito Bowl (Chilli, Rice, Beans, Cheese, Sour Cream) and 1 x Burrito (same ingredients as above) and almost had a heart attack at the price.

30 EUROS!!!!

What did I get for my money? Not enough meat in the Bowl and the Burrito bread/wrap was hard again.

This place needs some serious management. In the meantime, I won't be...
