After Eddies great tour we needed a quick pint and a quick rest of the old legs before we embarked on our journey across town. Plenty of good boozers in Phibsboro, but we decided to head to Doyle's Corner, an iconic landmark in this part of town.
Here for over a 100 years, it is a pub steeped in the fabric of the local community. I have drank in this place before, as it is a stone’s throw from Bohemians FC ground, Dalymount Park, and it is also not too far from Croke Park, the Gah ground. So on match day, be it football, bogball, or stick fighting (ancient Irish sports), it is always busy.
Well to say we were amazed is an understatement. We actually had to check if we were in the right bar, I say this as the whole place got a total revamp inside, and looks totally different. It has got a very stylish and fancy new makeover. It really is a great design, and who ever is the interior decorator deserves a big cheer. There is a bit of everything in it really, some art deco, has nice wooden snugs, cool peasants on displays, dead and stuffed of course, the visit to the bogs bring you on an old disco style journey with big pop art in the toilets. Now I know this all sounds like a bit of a mess but somehow it all works perfectly together. Of course for me the best bit is behind the bar, looking at all the various whiskeys and liquor on display,
We were the only two at the bar early morning, so still quiet. They have a good selection of beers on tap but went for Franciscan Well’s Rebel Red Ale, from Cork. Bar lady was friendly and served the beer perfectly in no time. Also got some Keoghs mature Irish crisps, very nice too, so good went back for another bag! As we were looking at all the beers, booze and alcohol on display Pogue's Irish Whiskey caught our eye, and sure we just had to have a taste of this! Got a shot of it, was smooth enough, and gave us that little kick we need to continue on our journey across Dublin.
Doyle's is looking fantastic and will be here again no doubt about it the next time I’m this side of Dublin, so much to see, so many interesting beers to try out, great setting, friendly staff, and a good effort all round. Next time I should try some of their food as I’d guess they have a...
Read moreI’m writing to express my disappointment at my 40th birthday party held at your venue on February 3rd. From the onset I should have realised the unprofessionalism.
I was emailing Sarah about on the 10th January about the venue she advised it was available, I asked for the package listed on your website which stayed room hire 300 and minimum spend 500 w 75% of guests must be catered for and balance on drinks. She advised the site was in error and then advised the room was gone and another party had paid full deposit in her words I asked for any dates and she advised nothing for the month. You’ll see from screenshots I have provided. My mam enquired following day and date was available and eventually booked it couple days later with deposit. I should have let listened to my gut and not chose here after what she done but I’ve many friends who had parties here and always enjoyed.
Anyway on the day of party Sandra greeted us and was so pleasant many of guests who complained about security and bar staff said she was lovely. The dj was told he couldn’t use certain equipment he asked for glass of water and was told to queue like everyone else !! Guests were sent downstairs for cocktails to queue people from party upstairs were using our bar, there was no wsy 500 worth of food brought out and to top it all of my friends booked a surprise saxophonist for 1 hour the manger said he wasn’t playing and to go away or he wouod pull the plug on the dj this left myself and my daughter in tears. The bar staff were rude and a private party should have been private not random guests walking in and out.
I never thought in a million years I’d be worried my music at my bday would be switched off and this causing embarrassment and tears.
I hope this never happens to anyone else at a celebration because it should never have.
I did email the venue but they...
Read moreWe'll run. Friendly security at the door asking for Covid Certs.
When inside you are quickly greeted by another welcoming member of staff, who took our contact details & lead us to seats (asking if the seats were okay for us-they were).
The same person took our drinks order and was a real people person with good banter and conversation, even though the venue was getting busy.
The lounge is very well decorated, leaning towards old style and suits the ethos of chat and unwinding.
Cocktail menu looked tempting, but I stuck to wine (which tasted refreshing & not acidic), my husband had Guinness, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
We came back after we had a meal elsewhere (but Doyle's also serves food) - we had been assured a table would be held for us (and it was, even though on our return tables all seemed taken).
A DJ played great music - classics from 90s etc that the younger customers loved too. Music at good volume to still allow you to chat, but also get your music bones moving.
We will be back for sure. We both thought the vibe was very welcoming and upbeat.
Thank you Doyle's-we had a...
