Let me preface this review by saying that I did not order from the English menu.
I ordered from the Chinese menu(celotaped on the front of the counter, use Google translate) which offers far superior food to the highly westernised slop that's often offered at a lot of Chinese restaurants/takeaways thoroughout Ireland.
I ordered the beef dish which came with freshly made thick/flat noodles, Pak choi and egg, with a generous portion of boiled rice served separately. The beef with bits of fat/gelatin but dont be deterred by this because the beef was delishous and tender. The hand pulled noodles were semi-immersed in a mild chilli oil which was really tasty.
My fiancé ordered crispy pork mixed in chilli's and onions, with a generous portion of boiled rice served separately. The pork, like the beef, was delishous. The chilli's were mildly spicy in my opinion and was complemented well by the onions. Don't be put off by the fat pieces in the pork or the beef, just eat the meat if you don't like the fat/gelatin parts. The fat gives meat more taste, more essence of flavour.
We also ordered a side dish of tofu - quite tasty.
All of this cost about €25, which I considered to be great value. We were stuffed.
I could not fault the service. Our order was served within 15 minutes.
I've read a couple of the reviews that speak negatively about shredded chicken or spice bags. I'd consider those dishes as western slop. I've sampled spice bags/shredded Chicken from the most highly rated restaurants/takeaways in Dublin. All of them were very disappointing, extremely oily dishes that come with little to no vegetables - it's bad food.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures but I'll definitely do so the next time.
I highly recommend ordering from the Chinese menu at...
Read moreUpdate: Still remains very expensive for a Chinese Takeaway, but the food is consistently excellent so we're back up to four stars overall (five for the food - shout out for the fantastic Singapore Chow Mein). I now go here for an occasional treat.
Update: Another €2 or so since added onto cost of every main course (Autumn 2022). Simplest chicken curry with boiled rice to takeaway now over €13. Food remains very good, but costs way too much to visit regularly_
Had previously given New Empire four stars as the food is very good. But about a month ago (Spring 2022) they slapped at least €2 onto every main course, only weeks after issuing a new menu which itself had involved (smaller) increases from the previous one. I know inflation is up but a simple chicken curry now at more than €11? So since then I've mostly been taking my business elsewhere to far more reasonable Chinese takeaways in the area. A pity, but that kind of increase is...
Read moreAbsolutely love the food from this restaurant. I've been ordering food from here for years and to be honest, I only get take aways from here because it's so difficult to find anywhere better. Chips are always cooked to perfection with a that little bit of crunch, noodles are amazing, the nice skinny ones. Beef and black bean sauce is delicious and so is the chicken breast in Satay sauce. The satay sauce is awesome. The staff are very nice and friendly too, my friend is vegan so they cooked his food in a special oil and they have always adapted my meals to my specific preferences. Very surprised it's not a higher rating. oh and the trios are lovely, I'm in the middle of one writing this :D It's most likely that Any bad reviews are...
