Exceptionally rude management. Don't waste your time, plenty of other fantastic pubs in the area to choose from.
I made a booking for a table with a very helpful member of staff on Wednesday only to be rang back by a different member of staff the following day and unapologetically told my booking was cancelled.
Initially, I was told the booking was too late but when I attempted to change the booking to an earlier time I was hung up on.
Upon ringing them back, the staff member acted as if he did not hang up on me and instead gave me a different reason for why it wouldn't work, regardless of the time, before hanging up on me again.
The management staff clearly have little respect for their customers and made next to no effort to communicate their incessantly changing attitude towards my booking. Whenever I attempted to cooperate with them they would give me a different excuse or hang up.
I used to love this pub but after this extraordinarily frustrating and belittling experience I won't be returning any time soon.
I understand that different pubs have different rules around booking, all I expect is consistency in how this is communicated and to be treated with the most basic level of respect.
Smyth's has failed here on both accounts.
I'd strongly recommend that you visit one of the many other wonderful pubs...
Read moreMy wife and I have lived in Ranelagh for over three years now and have been patrons of Smyths since the beginning; we’re sure it’s the venue we’ve frequented most in all of Dublin—and we go out a lot! It’s always been a comfortable, welcoming place, a nice pub atmosphere with a reliably decent bite to eat. However, at just after 6:00 on Saturday we were just turned away because of our casual attire, i.e., fairly new and clean athletic shoes/pants/leggings. I thought the bouncer was joking because I’m sure we’ve been there dressed similarly many times in the past and of course it hasn’t been a problem, because not even the much nicer restaurants in Dublin are so pretentious. Not a total loss, as we ended up at Tribeca down the road with better food. Perhaps we’ll try Smyth’s again, if I can find my cufflinks and cummerbund; I think they’re with my wife’s stilettos and eyelash extensions in storage. We’re sorry, Smyths, that we put your Michelin star rating at risk—we’ll be more...
Read moreWe booked a space in the pub for the day 2 of our wedding via the manager Andy. We arrived on-time and the space we reserved filled up quickly. Repeatedly people came to sit in the area and said "the manager said it was ok" which he denied. Any time I needed to talk to him it was a big drama. We ordered sandwich platters and one of the 3 platters came out made up entirely of beetroot sandwiches which I have never seen in my life. They were inedible. At one point I asked (saying only if possible) could we get another hot platter which caused more dramatic gestures. I did not enjoy my dealings with the manager here at all but did not want to ruin the memory of the gathering. The other staff were amazing, professional,...
