Arrived for an 8pm booking. No indication of where you're supposed to wait, so ourselves and 3 other parties waited aimlessly by the door while all staff in the vicinity tried their level best to ignore us. After my girlfriend walked down the restaurant to enquire, we were put asked to take a seat, and told that our table would be ready "shortly" There appears to be some distinction between bar seating and restaurant seating, although people were eating at the tables where we were asked to wait. When given our seats in which to wait, we weren't offered the opportunity to order a drink or look at a drinks menu. Having taken a cocktail menu from the end of the bar, we eventually attracted attention and ordered two drinks. 20 mins or so later, with two empty glasses on the table in front of us, and staff still trying their best to ignore us, I ordered a 2nd round of drinks from the bar and we continued to try and speak to a member of waiting staff to see if or when we might be eating. At 8.55pm, we were told that our table should be ready within the next 10 mins, just over an hour after our booked time. The atmosphere of the place is lovely, so we were more tolerant than we should have been in the hope that the food would be good enough to make up for the delay. 15 mins later, at 9.10pm, we were shown to a table and given menus. We made our choices and were ready to order. At 9.15pm, the maitre d returned to move us to another table where we were finally able to order before he had the chance to escape again. We eventually ordered our food, for an 8pm booking, at 9.17pm. For starters, I had the mussels while my girlfriend had crab claws. Both lovely but the food had a lot of heady lifting to do in order to compensate for the service and was only alright. For mains, I had the chicken, she had the turbot, and again, they were nice but nothing special. The menu doesn't seem to have changed since opening. There's something for everyone and our food was nice, but again, nothing special enough to compensate for the service.
Our first bottle of white was served without any way of keeping the bottle chilled. We mentioned this when we ordered the 2nd, and the waiter went to get a cooler. He eventually returned with the cooler just in time for us to cool the empty bottle.
As another reviewer had said, the lack of signage on toilets has the potential for confusion and embarrassment.
When our bill arrived, there were a couple of extra items on it that weren't ours, and our initial cocktails had not been charged (possibly comped, possibly in error). We were also given 2 limencellos at this stage. The extra items were removed, and the bill came to just over 200 before tip.
For a decent enough meal with 2 bottles of wine, the price was fairly standard, but could have gotten you a better meal within a stones throw.
I know the place was very busy throughout December, and teething problems could have been excused. January should be the chance to rectify these issues though, and it shouldn't take more than an hour to be seated at a booked table.
The atmosphere was lovely, and the background music was brilliant all night.
I'll be keeping an eye out for menu variations or dramatic improvements in service, but until then, I shan't be...
Read moreEDIT: Following the comment below, we have been explained by the manager our experience was due to adjustments to be made following the recent opening. For us to discover the real Dunmore, we were kindly invited for another dining. The sunday roast was definitively a 5 star experience together with the service.
December 23 :With a 4.9 rating, we had quite high expectation. While there is nothing to say about the food which is very good, the overall experience is not close to perfection as the rating may suggest. The majority of the staff seems to have very little experience, in our case : not all menu given (cocktail missing), order taken twice, manager complaining about staff taking order twice, dish given to the wrong person, no steak knife, cuttlery given again after the main dishes were finished (to the wrong person again), no dessert menu given or proposed. We never really new who attended us, but the young lady who attended us the most was very friendly, which made it a bit better. To conclude, on the wine, which includes a great selection of various region, including 280 euro Tignanello. In a country where people rate a 6 eur pint of guinness on the quality of the water, the waiter who pours it and the bubble on the foam, it is surprising to see this kind of bottle, standing on a shelf well above the serving temperature, with a different vintage than the one advertised on the menu (2018 vs 2020). While politely bringing the attention to the 6th waiter who brought us the bill, he did not care at all and was just looking at me "what are you...
Read moreHad an amazing experience here on Friday night, 13th September. Had been badly let down by another restaurant but managed to get a last minute table here. We arrived early and were able to have a drink at the bar, the cherry baby is delicious, themn when the rest of our party arrived we sat at our table. The staff were so attentive. The food was delicious, the scallops and crab claw starters were perfect. The crab claws were served with sour dough bread to mop up the buttery juice, heaven. The steaks were perfectly cooked and tasty, the chips were great, crispy and flavourful without being too greasy. The side of charred York cabbage was perfectly dressed and seasoned, not taking away from the flavour of the cabbage. We had champagne, more cherry babies and a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. The staff were great, especially considering how hard it is to get good staff at the moment. Our food was presented in front of each person without having to ask who was having what, a small touch that makes all the difference. In the end we were glad the other restaurant decided to close for renovation that morning without warning as this experience was far...
