My girlfriend and i ate here for what was supposed to be a special meal on the 5th of September however we will remember it for all the wrong reasons. The menu is relatively straight forward. Amuse bouche to start and then a choice of Lobster/Steak for mains. The starters were ok, no complaints here. However, this is where the meal began to go downhill.
The mains were slow to arrive. Considering the restaurant was as good as empty (3 other tables eating), i found this a bit unusual. When ordering the steak you get to choose one side, i chose gratin potatoes. I had to pay extra for onions and 'roast vegetables'. The roast vegetables consisted of thin slices of carrots/parsnips that were boiled and over seasoned with salt/herbs. My girlfriends fried potatoes which accompany the lobster were dry and hard. Upon addressing this in the restaurant when asked is everything ok, the waiter went into the kitchen to talk to the chef but never said anything back to us about it.We went on to order a sharing desert plate with 4 samples on it, 2 of which were tarts. The pastry on the tarts were wet and soggy, no bite at all to it. We said this to the waiter and left the 2 tarts. Again, nothing was said back to us by the waiter.
At this point we asked for the bill, 86.60 the meal came to. Everything was charged regardless of our complaints. I addressed this and the waiter said that the chef agreed about the fried potatoes and admitted they were yesterdays reheated . He said the chef also acknowledged that the pastry was soggy however he just stood there and waited for payment of it regardless.
If you want to pay for overpriced food, poor service and yesterdays food all in an empty restaurant then Rouge is the place for you. Otherwise id recommend you eat elsewhere in one of Galways many fine restaurant.
Note: Within an hour of this review, Rouge contacted me directly and dealt with this efficiently, professionally and in a very effective manner. A voucher is being sent to me and i have been assured my experience was not the norm. Hopefully it delivers second...
Read moreWe toured castles all day and rolled into town around 8:40, hungry af. We also had been wanting to find something nice, as we all had birthdays recently. The magic of finding Rouge elevated our whole trip to another level. The food was incredible but the service was the most hospitable I have ever had. Arianna was so welcoming and didn’t rush us at all. She saw to it that we felt like we were VIP. We never wanted for anything, and her recommendations were amazing. Richie and Otto were cooking and they had extensive knowledge of the menu and showed such passion for the food. As Richie said “it’s a family and you’re part of it now”. We ordered the beef fillet and the the sirloin but also got the full course. Every single thing was perfect. The pulled beef, the cod balls, the sweet potato, the mushroom 🤤 But again, it was the service that made this experience worth coming back. As long as Arianna is there, I promise to return. Its ear her passion and love for the place are what made it worth writing this review. Thank you Ariana and Rouge! This is the number one place in Galway and will feed you late and make you...
Read moreWe had reservations for 7:30, arrived promptly at 7:30, we were seated promptly at 7:30, even though the hostess told us our reservation was for 6:30. I showed her my confirmation and we were seated. The waitress told us to wait a few minutes to take our order, we asked what was on the vegetable plate, she said if we wanted the vegetable plate we would need to wait as kitchen was busy. We said we just wanted to know what was on the vegetable plate, she said we would have to wait, there were two tables in front of us and she would be ”just two minutes”, she spent massive amounts of time chit chatting with other tables, we watched and over heard her talking about her hair, her glasses getting fogged when she opens the dishwasher, her contacts bothering her and thats why she was wearing her glasses, etc etc. At 8:00 she still had not even told us what was on the veggie plate, let alone taken our order. We left. This was our 10th wedding anniversary dinner which i included in the notes with our reservation. Our first trip to Ireland. We’ve had great and attentive service everywhere else on our lovely trip,...
