That is a bit more difficult to review, because the rooms and concept itself is top.
Sure, we knew that it would be a bit louder due to the location (which is 5-star!) and booking reviews. If you’re a loud sensitive human or like to sleep early and uninterrupted, you just want to be notified. We had a good stay, but it brought some inconveniences too.
Firstly, the positive: Rooms were top! Modern, the bed was comfortable, (two pillows), everything was clean & some drinks were provided (tee, coffee-machine, water). We had a TV and free wi fi. The shower was clean as well. Check in was fast and digital via code due to no reception (a little but, more later on). For problems, a WhatsApp number was published. The location is simply a 10/10. Less than a minute to the Latin quarter and everything you want to see and experience in Galway. Totally recommend that, if city center is majorly what you look for!
Unfortunately, there are two “but’s”… during the night, the announced noise was present. Loud people in the streets and loud cars (nothing the hotel is responsible for - earplugs are next to the bed), but the rooms itself produced a really annoying noise during the night and morning. When showering or using the toilet, the pump (I guess) worked as long as water was provided - causing a vibrating noise, no matter if you got earplugs or not. We were awake as long as our neighbors were, when getting ready for bed. If someone enters the hotel, you might also wake up right away, as the doors and walls aren’t that thick. Door opening and closing hit a bit loud.
Secondly, and this is probably just a one-timer and no reason to be worried, but - there is no reception, everything works via mail and codes. That is no problem at all. Contrary, for check in and out is very comfortable. Which was problematic, however, was that the front door was open during the day (I assume because of cleaning - which did not serve our room, or maintenance). We came back several times across the day to store some shopping items and we could easily walk in - in combination with a missing reception, simply everyone had access. Yes, there was a surveillance cam, but you’ll never know if someone is watching in the other side.
This is simply why I’d prefer to stay somewhere else next time, even though the location is world class. I know, that is subjective - just a note for sensitive or no party-folk people (like me). Otherwise -...
Read moreEnjoyed our stay at the Galway Rooms! You should be aware that this is just a group of rooms behind a coded door. There is no front desk, laundry or luggage storage. That being said, it was a very pleasant stay. You'll recieve an email at 1pm the day of check-in and it will contain your access codes. You can't access your room until 3pm though.
I wanted to mention a few things that affected our stay and contributed to lowering my score slightly: The king size bed appears to be two twins pushed together, or a king laid across two twin frames. The middle arched up and the mattress was slanted, alternating pointy bits and lumpy bits. Not very comfy. The tv has a volume lock on it, so you cannot turn it up very loud. I understand the purpose this serves, but you also cannot turn the volume down. I was slightly annoyed at this, as I wanted to listen to some shows at low volume. The room door was coded, but I felt that the code was a little too easy to guess. There was no deadlock on the inside of the room, so if anyone guessed your code they could waltz right in.
The good points: Our room was very cute. The bathroom was small but very clean and well stocked. The water pressure was great! Shampoo and body wash were provided. I appreciated that a blow-dryer was also available. The room cleaner was great and came daily to replace towels and remake the bed. It's been said that this area is noisy and that is true, because it's so central. Earplugs were provided and were needed. We kept our windows open to enjoy the breeze so the noisemay be less intense when they're closed. Overall this is an ideal stay for travelers who are self sufficient, and don't need a lot of attention. It's a comfortable space to return to after a long day and a great location to see...
Read moreThis room was OK. It had a nice view over the part of the town and the river. It was a hotel with no receptionist you got a passcode sent to you shortly before your arrival, to get into the hotel and a separate code to get in your room. The problem with this room was the TV was very small 24” and actually 15 feet away from where I sat on the bed so it was hard to see, I had to move closer just to see what channel it was on. And the volume was set, you couldn’t turn it up or down. The volume was too low for me. I could barely hear the TV from 15 feet away, it was mounted 6 feet high on the wall. It was terrible TV, I contacted the company and wanted them to turn up the volume. They said no that was as loud as it would be, really stupid! So don’t stay here if you wanna watch any TV. And there was no breakfast included, but there was a nice café just across the street that had excellent eggs Benedict. There was a great parking garage just two blocks away which I posted earlier. And there was this great street puppeteer. Also, it was a little noisy, but it was a way from the noisy downtown area hotels, which were probably much more noisy. All the streets were busy at night with people. Also, they had terrible curtains that hardly blocked out any of the street lights or morning light. But you can fix that yourself by using the extra blanket and sheets for...
