I called in two orders….cod and whiting with chips, based on the reviews I read on this site. When I arrived.. 15 mins later…. I was told that they took cash only, no cards. I was not prepared for this eventuality…. But when the server angrily and rudely told me that she had advised me of this fact on the phone I was quite taken aback. She had a strong Eastern European accent but my partner and I were both on the phone with her, and while it was difficult to understand her, neither of us heard her say that. My partner then went to three separate establishments to obtain the necessary cash, incurring a three block walk due to the general lack of availability of cash in the area. Needless to say this coloured our experience. However, on to the fish and chips…. By the time we got home they were cold…. They had been waiting while my partner went on her trip around Limerick. The fish was too breaded and the underlying fish was mushy. The chips suffered from a distinct lack of malted vinegar….. I had not thought to ask about it due to the general challenges caused by my reliance on modern technology….. but I was not asked about it either. To reinforce our disappointment in the quality of the fish, our seafood connoisseur, Sorcha P (the cat) sniffed the fish, nibbled briefly on it, and walked away, refusing further invitations to indulge. Let’s face it…. The entire experience was a farce. In times of COVID our taste buds may be slightly off kilter, but had I known that this was a cash only place I would not have ordered. This policy defies COVID guidelines. The ensuing debacle of attempting to get cash in a largely cashless area lead to our meal being cold and soggy. Our experience was forever tainted. We cannot in good conscience give this establishment more than one star. We...
Read moreThe battered cod fillet was really really good and I'm not a huge fan of chips in general with exceptions from time to time, these weren't one of those exceptions. Got a fish, chip and coleslaw and it was nice but it was a slight pain not having somewhere to eat it, jade to buy a coffee in a Starbucks across the way. Not sure if they had some vinegar to take away but definitely could've done with more than the sprinkle on top and yknow it wouldn't go astray to throw a bit of tartar sauce in with a fish and chip. Overall, good food though and would recommend. Maybe just have an idea of where you're gonna eat and grab some...
Read moreCame off the bus looking for cheap food with good reviews and saw Luigi’s… we showed up and Luigi showed off. Got our fish cooked directly from the man Luigi himself. We got to talking, good conversation with him and the other staff, and he left for a second to come back and share some Limerick/Luigi Love. Gave us souvenirs from his shop. The fish was good and the chips were great. Good portion. 2 of us split a large chips. Could have used a little more vinegar on our food but don’t fault them, we should have asked to be topped off more. A bit oily but hey cant...
