We visited McGettins on our first night in Limerick. It was the restaurant/bar inside our hotel, Limerick City Hotel. We actually were going to go somewhere else but they gave us a $5 voucher per person upon checkin. It was a great business move, because it did entice our hungry tired selves to just venture down there instead of go outside of the hotel. We went around 6:30 pm and there were minimal people, most likely due to it being a Monday night. I ordered the Carbonara and my partner ordered the fish and chips. The food came out very quick, within 10 minutes of us ordering and it was very hot. They were both delicious, I even preferred the fish and chips here to the one I ordered at Locke Bar down the street the next night. We also ordered an Orchard Thieves for the first time and it was refreshing and not too sweet for a cider. I took off a star for service because we were a bit confused how it all worked. We were told to sit wherever but weren't sure if we were supposed to go find someone to order or if someone would come to us since both servers/bartenders were behind the bar. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere though with comfortable seating...

No allergen menu , one of our party has a severe peanut allergy. The first staff member said they wouldn,t advise him to have anything to eat because of the risk of cross contamination. The lady who took our order said she would check with the kitchen staff and came back to tell him he could have 3 items on the menu. When asked about the cooking oil the chips would be cooked in she came back with the reply that they would cook the chips in a seperate fryer. Then she came back a third time and said the head chef would not be in till later and the kitchen staff could not guarantee there was no cross contamination with peanuts. From the time we ordered it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive , my cod and chips were "ok" but the young lady in our party didn't eat her chicken wrap. The young lady who served us was very friendly I know she was embarrassed with the mixed information we were getting from the kitchen but it was not her fault the kitchen staff left her down and the customer down on the day . Saturday afternoon big matches on TV and the place was almost empty now I know why. I'm being generous...

There on the 27th of December around 3pm, group of 4 with a view to have some grub. I got a pint that didn't look great and tasted even worse after 2 sips I went back to the bar to explain and asked for a replacement pint, I was look at like I had 2 heads by the 2 behind the counter..I was told that the pipes were just opened or something and thats why the pint might be off. ok..but they couldn't offer me another one, even after agreeing that it didn't look right. I explained that it was hardly my fault but was only offered a discount on another pint...unbelievable! got another pint, checked my change and turns out I was charged full price....the worst customer service I have ever come across....needless to say we all left and won't be returning. Update: 04-02-20. Followed the link below and submitted my contact details twice, heard nothing back so even though they'll look like they want to improve their services and make things right, its obvious they do not care how the customers...

I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the limerick city hotel and eating in McGettigan's. We had the two courses for €21 each, the starters were amazing complete meal on there own and the mains of fish and chips plus the burger were very good. I will admit to waddling out of there needing to walk off a food coma. The staff were very attentive, plenty of them, friendly and very good at there jobs. Makes such a difference to be served by someone that is genuinely smiling and wanting to be there. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to stay in limerick and enjoy the city.
