Neighbourhood Espresso — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Carlow

We visited here for lunch following a bad experience with order mix ups before covid hoping it would have improved especially as it wasn’t busy and there were plenty of staff working. Two of us sat outside. We ordered a tea, an Americano and and two chicken melts. After 20 minutes, a server appeared with tea and an americano in her hands. She gave us the tea but gave the americano to the table next to us who arrived later than us. 10 minutes later, an americano arrived. Another 15 minutes later with cold drinks at this stage, one sandwich arrived (no cutlery or napkins etc arrived at any stage throughout this experience). After eating the very mediocre sandwich and another 15 minutes (we’d been told the second sandwich would be just a minute), I decided to ask for it to go at which point the server seemed shocked (an hour outside at the end of October was quite long enough). I went to pay in the meantime and someone who seemed to be the owner/manager asked if I’d been served. I explained what happened and he said oh I’m sorry and then asked the server if I was still paying full price (over 25euro), to which she answered oh yes. Nothing more was said. Went there couple years ago for lunch with my mother and thought I'd try something different (always got the chicken ceser wrap which is nice) but this time I had gotten a dish which had fish in it - can't remember the dish but I spent the day in the bathroom after.

Used to always go before but wasn't in carlow much and the cost of the food is crazy - but never have I had a nice experience with staff, went in the other day and got a smoothie waited in line with one person behind me and went to the bathroom. When I came out the guy the was behind me was served and gone and the girl behind the counter on her phone and she completely forgot about my drink, which I normally wouldn't mind but for me it was just the icing on the cake.

As I said used to always go in for food but after the last time I could not recommend it especially with the price and the shocking service and unfortunately now I couldn't even recommend going in for a drink. Sad as I used to always chat to the owner who is actually lovely but again could...

The food here can be really hit or miss. For instance today I ordered the porridge but got served it with a different milk than I had previously asked for with the porridge and wasn’t told they had ran out of berry compote and instead just got served a spoon of jam on top, while last week I ordered the exact same thing and it was exquisite. The same can be said for the pancakes, sometimes they’re cooked to perfection and sometimes they’re a little burnt. The food is a little slow coming out which I don’t mind on the days the foods amazing because I can appreciate that it’s freshly made. I will stay that the staff are amazing and friendly and I’m always greeted with a smile whenever I go on. A young man who waits (I think he’s named Clayton I could be wrong) is extremely friendly and definitely an amazing attribute to the cafe. Overall this is one of my favorite cafes in Carlow although I do recommend the waiters write the orders down so a mistake like the wrong milk doesn’t...
