Gorgeous catholic Cathedral in the centre of Carlow, interesting history, impressive size and architecture along with a pretty stained glass window, quiet and peaceful outside of services, only 20p to light a candle, great place for quiet prayer

The foundation stone of the cathedral was laid on 18 March 1828 by Bishop James Doyle and completed in 1833. The Cathedral of the Assumption is the second oldest Roman Catholic cathedral built in Ireland.

This church had its wars when it was refurbished in the 1990s and now it is quite nice and was very suitable to the pan-Celtic concert that we attended there.

I work there I do the caretaker job, keeping the place tidy from papers and weeds. I work five days a week. Its a lovely church to go into and say a few prayers. The priest is a lovely man to talk to and if you have any questions then you can come and ask the friendly team of ladies there who will answer your questions for you if you want anything done or said at mass. They will help you in any which way they can. So please give it a visit you won't be...

I didn't hate it but the building is austere rather than beautiful. Also the bricks & mortar are completely over rated by the incredibly insular locals. The community itself us very far from the even basic level welcoming Christian people of God they could/should be. However it does stand beside one of the oldest 3rd level Catholic colleges in the English...
