My partner and I had this little restaurant on our sight for some time and then decided to book a table. From the pictures you see online everything looked like fine dining and we were really looking forward to it. Indeed when you arrive in this little cosy restaurant everything looks great, the dimmed light and atmosphere make you feel good and we received a warm welcome although the music was a bit too aggressive for our taste. Choice of wine is wide and the menu clear and small which is always a good sign in a restaurant. The little nibbles were good beautiful to the eyes and well constructed. Starter was a little potato velouté which was nice to the look, good but missed a bit of originality with big ham cubes in it which felt a bit off and in total opposite of what this plate is all about : smooth and delicate velouté. Now come the main. My partner had a duck which was well executed, well cooked with nice sweet salty sauce made of berries and. I ordered a sirloin and here come the problem. The piece was way to big and the meat was not as good as I was expecting well cooked but too hard which I could not finish. It comes with big chunky crips which doesn't look great in the kind of restaurant but that's not my main concern as they were rather good. Let's just say there is no need to go to the restaurant for this as you can do better at home for half the price. My recommendation would be to upgrade to fillet or dried aged meat and give a smaller portion for the same price and smaller french fried which look home made and not coming from a random fish and chips. The salad was good and overall pretty acceptable. This restaurant has a good potential but needs to make better choice of product and fine...

The whole square experience is a must do on any good diners list. From the welcome by name to the good night from all the staff you take part in a well deserved dining experience . The menu will leaving you double choosing and wanting to try all, it doesn't help as you side gaze to see what's arrived at the tables beside you. The pate was creamy, light and bursting with flavour on the soft brioche toast, with citric apple strips. The malbec was hearty and fruity just as it should. On arrival the Hake and side dishes looked bountiful and the air was filled hints of mouthwatering flavours. The roasted cabbage is a must have for all. All in all a great night out.... The waitress was worth her weight in gold and the team got it right on the night, so thank you all and...
Read moreI had eaten in the sister restaurant â Courthouses â in Carrickmacross which was excellent.... and looking forward to trying the âSquareâ .... with my friends.... The food did not disappoint...... Very flavoursome and arty plated.... I found the menu a bit limited and a bit on the expensive side as the portions were very small.... I ate all three courses which I would never do... including the Nibbles pre starter.... The staff were very friendly and informative on the menu .... My biggest âput offâ was the size of the restaurant.... Itâs tiny... and your very close to every table.... The noise level reached a very high very quickly..... There is only ONE toilet for both male and females which you have to back in and out.... ( tiny also ) The heat was overwhelming..... I noticed the table beside us fanning them selves.... trying to create some air..... I absolutely loved the food but think a bigger / air condition premises with comfortable...
