The Spotted Dog is a truly special place. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I've had to resist ordering more than one thing on every visit. They source great local produce from Carlingford to Annagasson and cater to a variety of dietary requests. The staff are friendly and really helpful, I cannot commend the service highly enough. The restaurant is comfortable with options for indoor and outdoor seating, depending on weather of course.
We had a family meal on Easter Sunday. I had the seafood plate starter: crispy breaded calamari, a delicious fishcake ball, and butter-soft smoked salmon. For main, I had the roast lamb, cooked to perfection with a perfect amount of pink and matched with a floury baked potato. Lastly, for dessert, I had a chocolate fudge cake - as decadent as you could hope for it to be.
The Spotted Dog is a little gem on the Long Walk and a real culinary asset for Dundalk. If you haven't been yet, you must, and if you have, you already know you want...
Read moreWhen I first ate here, I ordered Irish breakfast. I got 3 burnt bacon strips, 2 sausages, black pudding, 2 eggs, toast, mushroom and tomatoe with some beans. When I say "some" beans, I literally mean they serve a very small amount of beans. It's almost laughable. The bacon was so burnt that it was hard as rock. My partner had ordered some chips and we asked for ketchup. They brought us a tea spoon size of ketchup. It's as if ketchup prices are equal to bitcoin. The toast was also burnt, also hard as rock. The beans didn't taste great, sausages were obviously store bought so they taste the same way if you'd make it at home. Overall this irish breakfast was very disappointing. The second time I came to eat here after a year, I ordered the same thing and was presented with exactly the same quality of food. Burnt, greedy with beans and ketchup and not that tasty. If you're looking for irish breakfast, go...
Read moreNice spot, order was packaged nicely and ready on time . Down to the food ...we ordered the crab claws 9/10 good portion size and very tasty. The chicken wings 6/10 thought they were over cooked and personally I think wings should be marinated in the sauce to hold the flavour rather than pouring the sauce or dipping the wings but that comes down to personal preference. Loaded bbq fries 9/10 these were very tasty big portion size and there was a lot of flavour locked in one meal. I would recommend these to anyone going here. White chocolate and baileys cheesecake 5/10 this was a let down as I’m a big cheesecake fan and Baileys /white choc is one of my favourites the biscuit is very thin as is the whole cheesecake in a small tub, loads of white chocolate which was nice but very little to none of a baileys taste from the dessert.
Overall I’d rate The...
