We booked a table in number 1 Jocelyn bistro (sister restaurant of cathedral) for 7 people on 28th December for 5pm (booked very well in advance in November) for 2 birthdays, with family. On the day (28th) I missed a call at 3.37pm and tried to call back at 3.58pm but could not get through on the line (which is a regular occurrence in my experience). I finally got through again at 4.13pm and was told my table had been cancelled and given away. Whilst in absolute shock, I could hear someone in the background say ââI called 5 timesâ and the person on the phone said a call was logged at 11:33, unanswered. This was not true. I received one missed call at 3.37. I was told that this new policy was introduced following a party of 15 people not showing up on Christmas Eve. Unfortunate of course but really not my problem and not something I feel my party should have suffered the consequences for. I have never experienced anything like this in my life and certainly did not expect to experience this from such a âsuccessfulâ restaurant. We were subsequently offered a table at 6 until 7pm in Jocelyn (obviously not enough time for a 3 course meal for 7 people, which the manager agreed with) or at 5pm in this sister restaurant cathedral. As we were dressed and ready to leave the house with baby sitters also in our homes with our children, we decided to take the 5pm table in cathedral. It was evident this restaurant was also over booked as it soon turned into a circus with an overflow of people. Not the nicest of atmospheres to eat in. Cant help but think this is pure greed on the restaurants behalf? The whole situation was also not as much as acknowledged when we entered cathedral. To make matters further worse the service was pretty slow and when we asked could we order a desert we were told no! That the table was needed in 15 minutes. We were never told there was a time limit on the table and again I reiterate, the delay was due to slow service, not our pace of eating. I am aware in todayâs climate it is a difficult time for business owners, however you need to look after your customers not punish them for other people's lack of respect, especially those who have made the effort to book well in advance. One of our party also called jocelyn the week of Christmas to specifically request a table in a certain location of the restaurant so we had been in contact and were very much looking forward to the night to celebrate our birthdays. I strongly suggest you consider a new confirmation process rather than cancelling tables within two hours of the booking after a call not being returned within a half hour. I was told it was tricky because no card details were attached to my booking. Again, not my responsibility to provide this while booking over the phone. Your staff should have asked me for these and I would have happily obliged as I do this with 90% of restaurants I eat in. The inconvenience and disaster of an experience should have been acknowledged by the manger in Cathedral also but was not and would have massively improved a bad situation to be honest, again poor judgement by the business. I did raise the matter with the manager in Cathedral before we left. He said he wasnât aware of anything but a waiter advised another member of our party that they were in fact aware we were meant to be in Jocelyn. All very surprising and has left a very bad taste in our mouths and ruined a very special...
Read moreWell, I went to Cathedral after previous great experience in Jocelyn No 1, and it was a bit of nostalgic visit because I was a big fan of Townhouse Restaurant what what was there before. The first impression was absolutely fabulous, all the colors and and furniture was composed absolutely perfectly. Because it was a lunch time Saturday just after New Year Eve, we could to chose where will be our table, so we took a place a bit on the side in the quiet corner. We were served absolutely correctly, a bit confusing was that almost every time another waiter was visiting our table but all service part went good. Now about food: For a starter we took Chicken liver Parfait and Duck Pancakes - as much as I can say that pancakes and duck was very good, the parfait was absolutely amazing! It should be one more slice of bread to this portion, but the texture and taste was absolutely amazing. Main dish - Chicken Supreme and Fish and Chips. I was thinking, that fish and chips is like a take away kind of food, that's why I decided, to try it in the proper restaurant, I was very curious of their vision of it. I was expecting, that it will be good fish and chips with some extra touch, what will give me an extra experience - not really. Everything was ok, nothing I can complaint, but nothing more. It wasn't any WOW! effect. Buttering very nice, and light, but piece of fish very average, a bit thin and it was haddock, I thing chunk piece of cod would be much nicer, but it is only my personal preference. Chicken Supreme - amazing presentation, taste was ok. Of course I'm giving 5 stars to Cathedral, because it is no reason to give less than this, and for sure I will back again and again to try another things. I was just thinking, that Cathedral will elevate Jocelyn quality level up, but not. Same great quality, same lovely taste, actually I hope that In those two places will be enough space that I don't need to go...
Read moreI recently dined here with my mother and sister and it was one of the greatest meals of my life!! We were served by 2 friendly, professional and hardworking girls - Lucy and Holly. They were excellent and very professional. To start we had the duck pancakes, which were superb. The perfect size and the duck was cooked to perfection. For mains, both my sister and I had the crab and lobster fettuccini. It was absolutely phenomenal. We have eaten many seafood pastas over the years, but this was out of this world. The lobster was cooked beautifully, and the sauce accompanying the pasta was gorgeous. It was loaded with meat - clams, crab claws and lobster. The price is exceptional considering how much we got. My mother had the chicken tikka masala and it was delicious. To settle the stomachs, we finished with a baked alaska! Staying on theme, of course it was gorgeous! As well as that, the cocktails were amazing. Huge huge huge compliments to the chefs, the food was beautiful. Not only was the food fabulous, but the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely - relaxed and refreshing. I canât wait to come back here and try more of the menu. Thank you Lucy, Holly and the wonderful chefs who made our...
