La Fontana — Restaurant in Waterford

We were a family of 4 booked in for my daughter's birthday. We arrived on time, shown to our table by a lovely waiter and our order was taken by a lovely young girl.

We waited and waited for our starters. After 20 mins passed they arrived which was fine as we had been chatting. The starters were lovely. Our plates were cleared and another lovely lady brought our mains. Everyone enjoyed the food yet again. Then a short bald man came to clear the table and said "ah good you're finished there's people waiting for your table!" Considering no one mentioned we had to be done in a certain amount of time and our starters were so late arriving, we just left his snippy comment go. Plus there was 2 other tables for 4 empty.

We asked him for the dessert menus. After 10 mins waiting he came back looked at me and raised his eyebrows and said "what are you waiting on" told him he was to bring us the dessert menus. My daughter loves the desserts in La Fontana, the whole reason she chose there for her birthday meal. After another 5 mins he dropped the menus on the table and said "here, there's people waiting on your table, be quick!!!" There was still a table for 4 and a table for 6 free. The woman at the table beside us gasped at his rudeness. So we just got up and left. There was absolutely NO ONE waiting for tables.

My husband went up and paid and he was told by another member of staff the short bald man had been acting like that all night. He was so embarrassed and couldn't stop apologizing for his behaviour.

He ruined my daughter's birthday.

We will NEVER PUT A FOOT INSIDE THE DOOR OF LA FONTANA EVER AGAIN. To treat your local customers that way, without respect, is unacceptable. He won't have any customers left soon....

I booked a group dinner for my birthday. The staff were very attentive and helpful with securing an available time slot. They regularly checked in with me by ringing me to confirm numbers throughout the week leading up to the booking. I thought this was very thoughtful of them.

However, on the night the service was very poor. The orders for food and drink were taken quickly which was good. The main courses were brought out promptly. The plates were cleared before people were finished their meals and a few of the party were being haruanged about whether they were finished.

The desserts took an hour and a half, and half were brought out and the other half afterwards. The wait staff snapped at me when we asked for the other desserts.

At the point of payment, it was not mentioned to me at the time of booking, over the phone when they contacted me, when we arrived and were seated nor was there any visible signage that we could not pay separately. The owner of the restaurant, an older Irish woman, shouted at my friend when she tried to request that the party of 13 people could pay separately and brought up how it was not mentioned at any point leading up to us paying.

The staff continuously interrupted and cut across us every time we tried to list out what we ordered and jumped ahead to say that we had to take for xyz drinks etc.

Overall the food tasted incredible however the atmosphere created by the rudeness of the staff and the delay of food was unpalatable. I would not be coming back here, even just for a date as the experience was unpleasant and we had the feeling of being rushed...

Storm Daragh was howling outside when myself and 4 friends arrived for our annual xmass night out to La Fontana wet and cold.Then manager seated us and offered drinks myself and a friend were designated driver's so weren't drinking ,she asked for a zero beer and me a zero wine ,to which he replied no such thing and dismissed me from the order .I felt offended he could have made a joke but left me feeling stupid.I worked in hospitality for yrs serving tables never would you make a customer feel like this with there friends.When ordering my main course we were told about the specials and I danced the monkfish in tempura batter,I asked what it was served with and they said mashed potatoes ,I was happy and ordered .It arrived swimming in a chunky tomatoes sauce/ soup the batter was wet and soggy and stone cold,I was disgusted tried to get his attention to complain ,he was to busy seating other customers and ignored me,couldn't eat it disgusting,my friendsasked would there be a shot of lemonchello at the end like last yr,his answered was it all depends on the price of your bill,enough said Obnoxious man will never darken the door of his restaurant again,I know I'm just one but why ,I'm easygoing smiley person no agenda thank you for horrible experience on a dreadful night.DO BETTER...
