I asked the front desk where I could find family style Italian and they sent me here. Well it was worth asking. The owner "Johnny" is the waiter, the cashier, the busboy, the expediter, and everything else for the front of the house. All he wanted was to make us happy. It started with glass of wine instead of water, and the local bread while we looked at the menu. Then he picked out the best things on the menu. The pics are our appetizers and our shared first course. Monkfish bites were perfect. Firm and easy to handle on the outside, softly cooked in the center. Served with arugala, thin sliced onions, tomatoes, and a delicious light vinaigrette. Homemade raviolis with cream, eggs, and sheep cheese, all local, all fresh. The first course looks like Spanish paella but it has a small pasta the size of corn kernels. Delish. This fusion is part of the 100's of years the Catalans controlled this Sardinian seaport and brought a Spanish influence to the food. I didn't get a pic of the wonderful, fresh, grilled tuna, served simply with lemon slices and arugala. Desert is another nod to Spain. An empanada stuffed wth cheese and drizzled with honey. A bottle of sparkling wine. And several complementary aperitifs finished the meal. A small place with mismatched tables. 80 euros...
Read moreEvery year we fly to Alghero for our Summer holidays and we have since been customers. This year we felt this place is not the same as it used to be. We were received in a very cold manner - we do appreciate that you must have tons of customers but when you go every year for ten days… you get noticed. Well first meal on the day of arrival wasn’t as it used to be. The linguini a le vongole was all about tomato… and not with basil but with parsley! Funny isn’t it? Well we have it the benefit of the doubt and we tried it another day. We asked for Lados (a traditional dish) and it was not only all about tomato but also the food was very poorly cooked like it was reheated. We didn’t eat. The waiter asked what was wrong and we explained what we felt. Not an apology. He continued insisting it was a fresh dish but it was not. More appalling was that the manager didn’t come to query about why we didn’t eat and on the days that followed each time he saw us he pretended he didn’t. Being in hospitality myself I do know that there might be days that are not so good and we are all humans but we must and should have the capacity of recognizing what’s not ok and empathize with the customer or you will Lose it. Shame as this was one of our fav places to...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to me by some local people when I asked for a seafood restaurant.Although it took some time to find as it has recently relocated the owner welcomed us with a very friendly welcome to this very homely restaurant. He took time to explain every dish on the menu and made recommendations on our reactions including the choice of wines available There was a large birthday celebration in the restaurant for a local family and the owner somehow knew it was my birthday too! and surprised with a small cake with a candle and introduced me to the 94 year old gentleman sharing birthday’s to which the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to both of us As we were leaving the restaurant it was raining very heavily so I asked if we could order a taxi, but the owner would not have any of that and insisted to take us back to our hotel in his own car The food was delicious from start to finish everything was perfect for a very...
