Ristorante Borgo Antico — Restaurant in Alghero

We came without reservation but were friendly greeted my one of the waiters who quickly placed us on a table for two.

After we sat down we had to wait 25-30 minutes before someone came to take our order. This only happened after we ourselves asked to order.

I was under the impression that orders are only taken by the owner herself. We did not receive a menu, and if I had not noticed the small QR-Code that linked to their online menu we wouldn‘t have known what to order at all.

Once the owner came over she asked whether we had a reservation, which seemed like a very strange question considering we already sat there for 30 minutes and half of the tables there were empty.

After all that waiting the online menu on my phone had closed and the woman/owner stood there impatiently not being helpful at all as she - in contrast to all the waiters - barely spoke any english.

I ended up ordering a four course starter set, where two dishes were so tasteless that I did not even know it was fish, cheese or meat.

Also we waited very very long for one portion Spaghetti and my cold starter dishes.

The waiters were very attentive and smiled constantly at us that was great!

Atmosphere was nice too - I enjoyed the lightning and the beautiful tables.

However that woman that came to take the order, who is the owner as I understood should learn from her staff how to politely speak to customers. She somewhat made me feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable.

Prices are okay for Alghero, wines are rather cheap but also taste like that.

All in all I would not return there as we sat there almost 2 hours before I had my first bite of food in addition to a chaotic and rude encouter with the woman that took the order. Long waiting times and while some dishes looked amazing that were carried to other guests, our food...

This place is outstanding - 80% of restaurants in old town will serve same menu - this is in it's own league ... the food is so different to standard local fare - it is innovative, it is very unique for the region- its local produce with a Michelin feel - I travel alot , eat out alot , this is definitely the best I have had in Alghero and Sardinia . I'm here 3 months!! If you appreciate the level of effort and detail put into a dish, fresh quality ingredients and a fan if innovative cooking .. thsn do not walk past here . The service was 10/10 too - amazing staff so friendly, professional and attentive ... this is definitely one of , if thee not the best restaurant I have found here .. I recommend the shared starter ... I had it , and came back again for it .. it's more like a Tasting Menu .. I'd have it for 1 person as a tasting menu and leave completely...

Perché una sola stella? Non posso dire quale sia la qualità della cucina, né quella del servizio ma posso raccontare la mia esperienza che, tra l'altro, oltre me ha coinvolto altre tre persone. Provo a mettere ordine nei fatti: Di martedì sera - ora di cena - (con il locale chiuso nonostante il riposo settimanale sia il lunedì!) chiamo il numero sulla lavagna appesa all'esterno del locale per prenotare un tavolo per quattro persone per il sabato successivo alle ore 21. Specifico che avremo festeggiato 2 compleanni. Risponde il titolare che gentilmente mi conferma la prenotazione suggerendomi anche il tavolo migliore all'esterno in caso di pioggia. Il sabato, all'ora concordata, ci presentiamo per la cena ma rimaniamo sorpresi nell'apprendere che non vi è traccia di prenotazione nel notes dei camerieri e, di conseguenza, nessun tavolo è disponibile. Il titolare, visibilmente in difficoltà, si scusa in maniera un po' bruscamente imbarazzata, ci dice che non può tenere un tavolo libero dalle 19 alle 21 e che, comunque, il primo tavolo disponibile sarebbe stato il nostro; nell'attesa ci invita a prendere l'aperitivo su una panchina li vicino (sic!). Aggiunge, con modo scortesemente gentile, che la mia prenotazione comunque è stata presa (ci chiediamo come mai allora il tavolo non sia disponibile!) Dopo più di 20 minuti d'attesa, nessun tavolo si libera e decidiamo di andare a fare una passeggiatina. Prima di allontanarci dal locale, propongo cortesemente al titolare di prendere il numero del mio cellulare per avvisarmi non appena si libera un tavolo ma lui si rifiuta senza dare alcuna spiegazione! Che dire? No comment. Lascio a voi...
