Tucked away in the charming streets of Alghero, Sa Mesa offers a taste of local Sardinian cuisine with professional service and a relaxed ambiance. Our dinner was enjoyable, though it didn't quite reach the heights we’d hoped for.

We began with the local squid ink pasta, a classic starter that delivered familiar seafood and tomato notes. It was well-prepared and satisfying, though not particularly memorable.

For the main course, I had the spigola al forno—oven-baked sea bass served with potatoes and tomatoes. The fish itself was tender and well-cooked, but unfortunately the dish was let down by the quality of the oil used. Whether reused or simply subpar, it dulled the freshness of the ingredients and left a noticeable aftertaste.

That said, the service stood out as a strong point: prompt, courteous, and attentive without being intrusive.

✨ All in all, Sa Mesa is a solid choice for a casual dinner, especially if you're looking for speedy, polite service and traditional flavors. Just don’t...

We had lunch at Sa Mesa on a weekday afternoon at around 12:30pm. It was quiet and we were the only patrons inside the restaurant with some people outside.

My partner had Fregola which she enjoyed which I added a star to the review for. My 4 year old son had the chicken nuggets which we were informed were freshly made by the waitress only to find out after they arrived they were from a packet.

My suckling pig was some reheated leftovers from the night before which was pretty much inedible which can be seen in the pictures.

When we told the staff about the nuggets they initially said they didn't understand us? However they relented and didn't charge us for them however "couldn't" not charge for the cremated pig (god rest it's soul)

If looking to order a suckling pig I suggest only when the place is busy however I would suggest eating at another establishment entirely due to selling this kind of food cooked...

We chose this restaurant after seeing it full in one of the previous evenings and after checking its reviews on Google.

Our dinner was far from being a good experience. I had macarrones with clamps and they were extremely salty (and I do usually eat salty). My boyfriend had the pork steak with potatoes - it was at most an ordinary plate, he didn't have at least some sauce next to the meat.

Moreover, the old waiter who took the order was completely unprofessional: he wasn't speaking english at all, he was quite expeditive and definitely not customer orriented. While we were there someone left the table before ordering due to his attitude.

The worst price/quality ratio I ever met. I definitely don't...

Wow, really disappointing… trying to find a decent family restaurant we landed here attracted by the child menu. Maybe we were unlucky but we got a cold welcome from the waiter (maybe bored by his job…). Then ordered some primi and segundi plus the child menu (nuggets with fries). Unfortunately looking the overall price, quality was not at the rendez-vous. Pasta and cold plate (tuna and salad) were fair, but the nuggets and fries were not well cooked and the taste was really bad. Our kid just ate 2 french fries and left the rest. Roughly 60€ for that is leaving a bitter taste but I guess that’s part of travel surprises! Anyway, next time in Alghero, will make sure to chase some better spots as there are plenty around.
