I had dinner at Trattoria Praetoria with the kids, and overall, it was not life changing. The service was okay, the waiter didn’t volunteer their best dishes dispute me asking multiple times. Just pointed to which ever ones were not pork. The ambiance is average, which is definitely ok if the food is amazing. The food was decent but nothing memorable. My kids didn’t like their pasta at all—they somehow managed to mess up plain penne with cheese, turning it into something closer to a white sauce. The waiter also got my starter order wrong, so I ended up with a whole cheese dish—not what I wanted, even though it tasted good. My main was good flavor-wise, but the portion of meat was a bit low. And I generally don’t like meat in sauce. Not a place I’d go back to but not disappointed...

We found the restaurant through tripadvisor so we came with a purpose, but the courtesy we found was well above expectations: although near the closing time, the staff welcomed us and served us quickly but perfectly. Do ask information on the food, they'll be happy to explain it to you and you'll make the right choices. I strongly suggest the Fonduta alla Valdostana, the Carbonada con Polenta and the Risotto al Bleu d'Aoste. The food is tasty, well presented and not overly abundant so you can enjoy an entrée and a first course. The experience is totally worth the price (surprisingly not very high!). Plus side: great camera spot, the restaurant is right in front of the old Roman...

Maybe because we were there on the 1st of Jan, maybe because we should have ordered more traditional and regional dishes, but we remained disappointed about the food. We have ordered lasagna (on the picture) and we were really badly surprised to get frozen, warmed up dish like from supermarket... Lasagna had no soffritto, meat and souce were not home-made. Pasta was overcooked. It had no taste. Stars for beautiful, cosy atmosphere in the restaurant and a very polite and nice service. I feel like coming back to try something different and I hope the lasagna will...
