Gelateria Gianni — Restaurant in Bologna

A truly disappointing visit, despite the excellent gelato.

My wife was initially excited to try this gelateria, and the gelato itself did not disappoint—it was rich, smooth, and full of flavour. Unfortunately, the service left a bitter taste. When my wife simply asked which flavour could go first in her cone, the young waitress responded, “I will decide which flavour to put first.” Not only was the tone dismissive, but the remark made my wife feel embarrassed for even asking. Lucky for her I was not in Italy or I would have made a complaint.

It’s baffling and unacceptable to be told what we’re allowed to prefer when we're the customers. A small courtesy goes a long way, especially when the product is otherwise exceptional. Sadly, that lack of basic respect overshadowed what should have been a lovely experience.

Una visita davvero deludente, nonostante l’ottimo gelato.

Mia moglie era entusiasta di provare questa gelateria, e il gelato in sé non ha deluso: ricco, cremoso e pieno di sapore. Purtroppo, il servizio ha lasciato un retrogusto amaro. Quando mia moglie ha semplicemente chiesto quale gusto sarebbe andato per primo sul cono, la giovane cameriera ha risposto: “Decido io quale gusto mettere per primo.” Non solo il tono era sgarbato, ma la frase l’ha fatta sentire in imbarazzo per aver chiesto. Sfortunatamente non mi trovo in Italia altrimenti vedevi che casini che facevo, ma come si permette la gente?

È sconcertante e inaccettabile sentirsi dire cosa dobbiamo preferire, soprattutto quando siamo clienti. Un piccolo gesto di cortesia fa una grande differenza, specialmente quando il prodotto è altrimenti eccellente. Purtroppo, quella mancanza di rispetto ha rovinato un’esperienza che avrebbe potuto essere deliziosa.

Their yoghurt and lemon gelatos were SO GOOD. I don’t usually go for fruity gelatos but it was the best decision I ever made in my entire life. It literally blew my mind. I tried so many gelato shops while I was in Italy for 10 days but this one was the best by far.

Other flavours (peach and something with cherry compote) were also very nice but these flavours were exceptional. Plus, the location is pretty cool, if you sit down in front of the shop you’ll have a great view. Overall, you’ve got to try yoghurt and lemon flavours in summer, you won’t be...

Slightly weird system of paying first at the far end and then moving around the counter to order (weird because most people didn’t have a clue what was going on and just standing in the wrong place so maybe they should just revert to the more common system of ordering and paying in the same place?).
