Night ruined.
I'm a recurrent visitor to Bologna. My friend suggested this restaurant so I thought I'd give it a try. Last year we showed up at the door and they told us they are completely booked (although it was empty at that time). I believed them and decided to come back next year.
This year, I called 2 days in advance to make sure I have a table booked. They said no problem your table is reserved. So I showed up at the time of my reservation, and the first reaction they had when I walked through the door was: "I'm sorry we're completely booked" and tried to usher us out. (I don't know why it didn't occur to him that I'm one of the ones who booked).
Just before we're forced out of the door I managed to explain to him that I booked in advance. He went to check his notes and said: "no, you didn't reserve". I explained again that I called 2 days ago and your staff (I should've asked for the name when I called) accepted my reservation. I even showed him my call history. He recognized his store phone number on my call history but insisted I never made a reservation. (Well, I didn't call just to say hi)
We were again ushered out of the door, and the restaurant is as empty is was last year. I'm on no grounds to judge on the quality of the food here, but I don't think a dishonest and disrespectful place like this can produce something that would satisfy me anyways. If you want your night ruined, this is the perfect...
Read moreI had a fantastic experience here. We got there earlier than the native Italians but I'm glad we did. The place fills up fast. A large group of young Germans wanted to come in but unfortunately the manager had to turn them away.
We were the first there, I said my pleasantries in Italian, and the manager was more than happy to treat us throughout the evening, with great service. I have the impression that they don't necessarily cater to tourists, but to me, that was part of the charm of the place.
The food was absolutely delicious. The portions are generous. My wife and I split a primi and a secondi and got along wonderfully. Of course, I had to get the tortellini in brodo (we are in Bologna after all) and was very happy with that decision. We also got a type of chicken stew, which was just the perfect dish for a cold and wet night.
I highly recommend this restaurant.
Per some of the other reviews, don't take it personally if you feel like you're not the center of the manager's attention. And as always, I think a little Italian and a great helping of humility (treat it like their home)...
Read moreCute restaurant, perhaps a bit of a tourist attraction. The service was nice, and quick, and although we sat outside, the decor inside was lovely. We ordered the lasagna, which unfortunately is a dish I would not recommend. In comparison to other lasagna dishes around town, this one was more on the expensive side of 15€. The taste was underwhelming, and there was way too much besciamella (which was the strongest taste to the dish). The ragu was bland and the pasta was very very overcooked. It wasn’t a balanced lasagna, perhaps other...
