Good, modern, quite big museum with different rooms which are dedicated to the different periods of the history of the city (from etrusca century to the modern days). Why 3 stars? Because for such a touristic place like Bologna and one of the most interesting and central museums of the city, it is crucial to put the information in the rooms not just in Italian. For tourists in every room they offer to take a document with a short information but it doesn’t explain everything you see in every room. Just a general thing and not the most interesting. For example I had to browse the information about the history of the city towers by myself because there was no explanation about it in details but I saw the pictures and the construction with the detailed explication in Italian 🥲 A lot of information you see in the walls but it’s only in Italian 😵‍💫 ooops. Maybe one thing which impressed me a lot was the VR room with two trips (you can choose just one). I chose a travel to the Medieval Bologna and I could walk on the historical centre, speak with people, ask them different thinks. Wow 🤩 The entrance costs 20 euros. Maybe for Italy it’s not very expensive but I found it not very economic. In general- good expositions, interesting history, but not enough information for tourists in...

Not worth it. We paid 80 euro for two adults and two kids. Too expensive! The virtual reality tour was bad. Batteries in the handles were missing, and one of our kids had to change VR-machine during the ride, because the first one was broken (don't they check this first?) The museum was only in Italian. We had English audio guides, but they did not match the boards and pictures. Instead they told a different story than what was on the boards/pictures. It's a shame they don't try to match this. The history storytelling in the audio guide was confusing and messy, and did not give a good insight into Bologna history. In general the museum is lacking direction, focus and better communication of the history that it is trying to tell. I have seen alot of museums but this one was one of the worst. Bologna is full of many other exciting things to se. Don't go to this museum.Too expensive, too low quality. (There were almost no visitors other than us - I guess Italians know about the quality of...

I was very much looking forward to this museum and was especially interested in the history starting from the 19th century. However, all writing is in Italian only. Sure, they provide a leaflet in every room and a very basic audio guide in English or French, but this only gives you a small overview. There’s no way one can understand the illustrations and pieces without knowing Italian (which feels like they want to hide the knowledge from anyone interested from abroad). As for my interest in the history past the 19th century, there were only really one or two small rooms dedicated to this. I feel like I haven’t learnt a lot and lost 11€ (with student discount). I would have been better off reading the Bologna Wikipedia Article, which is sad really. I hope someone responsible may read this and it might contribute to overthinking the concept of this museum in the years to come. Also, when I visited (October 2023) some of the interactive rooms were temporarily closed....

Palazzo Pepoli is a multimedia museum of Bologna’s history. Don’t expect rows of historical artifacts, instead you’ll find videos, audio, and digital installations that use technology to tell the city’s story. It’s a contemporary approach: less about physical objects, more about immersive storytelling. The museum itself is in Italian, but an audio guide is available. Each room comes with short 1-3 minute commentaries. If you want to go deeper, Google Lens is useful to translate the written displays. Be aware: if you’re used to classic history museums where you explore artifacts and form your own narrative, this will feel very different. Personally, as someone more old-school, I found it a bit unusual but it’s definitely engaging if you appreciate a modern, multimedia perspective on history.
